Photos of Uthaya Sankar SB throughout the years
I believe I was around one-year-old when I had my first photo taken. Don't I look lovely for a pre-matured baby? So, if you ever wonder why I'm so small (skinny), just understand that I was a pre-matured baby. But, then, what about my twin?
Standard One ... Sports Day ... SRK Aulong ... I'm standing second from the left. Too bad I didn't have many photos taken in this school. But at least I know where Ms Neo Kee Boon (Mrs Ho) and Hjh Fadilah are. I went to the school a few times in 1990's - and some of the teachers said, I look the same as I looked when I was a student there!
At the age of seven. And at the age of twelve. I was the Assistant Head Prefect, believe it or not! Gosh, I still remember how I had to do the weekly duty roster for prefects. Don't I wish I could be in Standard Six again ... Anyone out there from SRK Aulong?
In Form One .... SM Darul Ridwan (SMDR), Taiping. Err ... I'm the smallest person. Hey! If you happen to be in any of these photos, why not drop me a line?
And in Form Two. No problem to spot me, right? Form One to Form Three: Commerce. Form Four and Five: Science. But I hated Add Maths so much that I took Drawing instead for SPM.
Oh, yeah. I was into speech too. Hey, I was the first runner-up in the English Speech Contest when I was in Form Three. In Form One, I was the winner for Syarahan Bahasa Malaysia. Baca Puisi, Drama, Syarahan ... you name it, I was in it. Coming to think of it, how did I ever handle everything?? But then, there was Zulfikar Ali who became my unpaid secretary to remind me what are the things I had to do for the day. Thanks, Zul!
Was also very much active in clubs and societies. Err ... in those days, the students run the societies, unlike now where the teachers seem to be doing everything. I was once President of English Language Society, Setiausaha Persatuan Bahasa Malaysia (Perbama), setiausaha Persatuan Bahasa Tamil (Perbata) and a few other posts. In the photo above, you see (left to right) Sri Bala, me, Navaneethan, Mr Muniandy, Mr K. Balasubramaniam PPT, Loganathan, Thillai Kamalan, and (late) Shankar. Standing second from left is Muniswaran.
Okay, now. This photo is meant to give you a chance to see the view of Aulong Lama, a place which does not - to the best of my knowledge - exist in any standard map. You can see banana tree, flowers and papaya tree. And the beautiful pond which was mining area until early 1960's. Then it was used as a place to rear fish. Nice place for fishing and swimming. But a few have drowned here, mind you. But not to worry, there's almost no water left in this pond now. I still pay a visit to my neighbours. Oh, yes. Aulong Lama now has electricity, water, telephone and proper road. How to get to Aulong Lama and Siru Kambam? Get directions from "Anda, Sebuah Kampung dan Sebuah Kisah".
After finishing SPM in SMDR, I went to SM King Edward VII. I was the Ketua Pustakawan and held a few other posts too. It's obvious that many "tigers" disliked me for I was (and am) a "panther". Anyway, there were many good moments in SMKEVII.
This is me in Form Six ... and this is S.G. Prabha. It really was love at first sight. Just like in Tamil movies, she really disliked me in the beginning. "Perasan person," she still claims.
S.G. Prabha and I were not in the same class. I actually appealed to go from Science to Arts. And this is supposed to be my study group. But I still wonder if we ever studied anything!
This two photos taken in Dewan bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) during Minggu Penulis Remaja 1991.
Photos taken in 1992, 1993 and 1994. For the record, it's the same person. Rules in staying young: (1) Don't get angry easily. (2) Don't talk/think bad about others. (3) Think young. (4) Don't have too many rules in staying young.
With the Neo 'Baba Nyonya' Family in Malacca, April 1995. Neo Peng Soon is seated far right.
1995. Check out the hair, dude!
June 1995 ... Kelantan
In my room when I stayed in Klang. For your information, I have stayed in many places for long and short term. But Taiping is still the best.
The shooting of "Bukit Lalang" drama by Department of Media Studies, University Malaya students in Negeri Sembilan in 1996. I enjoyed directing under the guidance of Dr Anuar Nor Arai.
Primal Fear: Sooner or later a man who wears two faces forgets which one is real. If you think this is my twin, you are wrong.
Now, this is my twin.
Oh, boy! Would people ever stop looking at their own photos?
More photos in the future; hopefully.
