and Nancy here with me writing Daddy.
She is the same little lady and says

October 9, 1922

My dear Hub

Saturday night at 11 p.m. I received your two letters Nos 42-43.   It being the first news I got that you want me back.  It certainly gave me a surprise.  I had slept since 9 o. c. and Mike brought the letters at 11 p.m. as Sandy had brought them from the P.O.  The mail came late so it was 2 a.m. before I went to Slumber land again.  Well letters Nos 37-39-40-41 are missing.  I expect their [sic] is money in about 3 of them 2£ orders.  So you want me back again.  Well Hub dear it is easier to say it now then to do so there are no trains running and I should get a motor to take me to Qtown and send my baggage by road also you know with two children it is no easy task travelling.  If I only had known this a month ago that I could be ready for October but the 12th of Nov. travelling I would not care to chance it as the roads will be in a bad condition by then and besides travelling at present is not safe.  Holdups and robberies so for the present I won't consider it if I only had just my steamer trunk to pick up it would not be so bad.  I would go ahead and board around Cork or Qtown for a week but with my baggage and I am not going without most of what I brought as I never want to come back here again.  I am so full of disgust.   No I don't think there will be any famine around only that food will be dear if in less than two weeks I don't see my way of going I will get in a supply but that I will try and hold on to my passage money as I would go up to Christmas and I will be as sparing as I possibly can.  It is a terrible rough day.  Mother and Mike went to Millstreet for goodies.  Sheila is now sleeping and Nancy here with me writing Daddy.  She is the same little lady and says tell Daddy I love him six million dollars.  If I ever had any idea that you could raise my fare I would have told you I wanted to come back last July but now that the trains have stopped I guess I would have changed my mind.

It is interesting to hear about the murder mystery Capt. Driean looks good on the front page.  O'Brien will be sorry he was on vacation.  I saw Flannerg's name in the Boro news.  Is he still in the dump on River Road?  Well I am glad you kept the flat.  It must look real good painted up.  When I consider the thought of going on Nov. 12th we would be right into winter here and getting used to it by then.  It is when next Spring comes around that I will be glad I stayed.

Well I am glad I was not in Queenstown this morning going on board the Scythia.  Such cold and storm around.  So I believe you borrowed Bert's savings.  Well you want to hurry up now and pay him back as I have the 'boodle' here.   I received 4£ this morning, two in the letter of Sep 1st and 2£ more in Sep 8th but marked Sep 17th.  I guess they meant the 7th.  No 5469 M. O. now.  I will be on the look out for the 10£ I don't think you sent any two pound in letter No. 41 mailed about Sep 15 still missing as that was about the time you sent through to the Bank.   Well things are not worse since I am sending this off now on Saturday for Tuesday's mail.  Writing paper just cause in a hurry.  The P. M. waiting.  Love from us all and kisses

Ever your loving wife,
Belle

My dear Hub

Have you got over your surprise yet of we not coming back?  I wrote you on Monday answering letters Nos 42-43 telling you of the inconvenience on account of no trains running so I have not taken any further steps.  4 of your missing letters did not arrive yet.  I was to Millstreet on Monday and met Miss Shiul buying a small trunk to take back with her and leave her big luggage behind.  She was to leave to day Wednesday for the Scythia sailing Friday 13th and she had no motor engaged by then as Broker's was out of order.  Anna knows her she is home since July.   Tell Anna there must be a big change in Ireland when she is returning with a Greenhorn trunk.  One man from Cahirciveen 40 miles west of Tralee bought an ass and cart and started off with his luggage two weeks ahead we have not heard if he made the boat on time or if he got there.  Hub let me know if I will leave the money in the London Bank or draw most of it and deposit it in the Munster or Lewister bank and have it draw interest--that is if I don't book passage which I fear'd I won't as there is no talks of a pease [sic] settlement and otherwise no trains will run.

This is one night I wish I was back with the storm raging.   The kiddies are sleeping since 8 p.m.  Nancy was the little mother she got Sheila to sleep and Sheila is getting so cross and bold climbing on chairs and I have to have two trunks as a barrier to the stairs.  I hope your chocolates and moth bags come also paper and writing paper well no more this time.  Lots of love and kisses from your three big girls in Ireland.  Your loving wife, Belle.

My dear Hub

I received four more letters this morning Nos. 37-39-40-44 also one bundle of papers many thanks indeed.  So you see I have only one missing up to now that is Nos. 41 mailed I expect Sep. 13th.  So now I expect they will arrive ok.   I believe they have more papers at the P. O. but they look out for the letter carrier not to overload him.

I suppose you have your mind made up by now that I am not coming back since I have read your letters which arrived of late.  I think it is best we both agree and for us stay for the winter and by the end of next Summer get ready and go back.  I would be much better pleased if I could content myself to do that and being that you said the same in one letter I will make the best of it as the time won't be long passing if Christmas was past I would be counting the days then.  It is 9 months since you booked passage for us and by 9 months more we will be well into next Summer and I know it will do us all good the only thing that annoys me is the winter here and got to stay in so much when it is wet.  So from now on I will keep two fires going but give me my steam heater and appartment [sic] and Daddy coming home when the whistle blows.   Oh you should see me cry now you would say 'poor Biddy.'

I had a dream last night that I just got back and that Mrs. Kuykendall had me come right away to see 4 little pups.  So that was your 4 letters which came as dogs means friends.  Yes you just keep bunch guessing don't tell them the truth.  Do you see Lady Henney often?  I never wrote Mary too.  Has she got tired?  I should worry.  Don't work too hard I am pleased to hear Anna calls and poor Hogan don't come.  Well send her word I am coming back.

My dear Hub

Thanks so much for the nice box of writing paper.  It looks so pretty this morning.  I received your letter No. 40 with M. O. for 10£ enclosed.   Also a list of sailing dates under separate cover.  So one letter is still missing.  Well my dear I hope you have had some news from me by this time I guess you are rather disappointed at me not coming back.  I wrote Miss Ward yesterday.  I have not made my mind up yet.  I met a Miss Daly in town yesterday that is leaving next Sunday to sail on the following Friday.  They say you must be 4 days ahead in Queenstown.

Tell Anna Mrs. McGraw is also going that day so I guess I had better stay for the present.  So you get a headache every time you go to the letter box.  I know how disappointing it is.  Well cheer up old dear.  I hope we all will be spared to one another untill we meet again.  The kiddies are keeping well T. G. and you must not blame me for worrying about them.  I know I take life too serious but it is my nature.  From to day on we will only get mails three times a week.  Well that is not so bad is it.  I heard yesterday they were stopped entirely just a report things are about the same.  Send me a few papers once a while.   I only got one bundle and don't send any more packets of value altho I would like a pair of cheap bedroom slippers for Nancy size 10 or 11.  Address them for Baby Nancy and if I am still here for Xmas send a few cheap Xmas stockings.  There is no law for lost packets so don't bother about the moth bags or any more chocolates.  I will spare myself for the feed.

It is too bad that you should send so much money and If I don't go after the time will pass quickly and I would much rather stay into next year but please don't make any more plans for a while.  I hope you are not all in after the Summer heat.  Have you heard from Eleanor?  I have enough writing paper to last me now while in Ire.  Many thanks for addressing envelopes.  They will think I have a typewriter.  Yes, save my Sheila's high chair and give Mary the loan of my baby walker not to Hearily.  Will close with much love from your three big girls in Ireland.

Your fond big wife, Belle.

My dear Hub

Your welcome letter 46 received on Saturday also missing one 41 and supplement previous Thursday so things are running smooth again in regards the mail and two more bundle of papers.  Thanks so much it will break the monotony of things for a while to read the news.  Well I guess to day was a bout the first day you got news of our not returning so I believe my letter went on the Scythia Oct. 13th.  They say you must not refuse anything.  Well I hope I won't regret my turning down of not going when you sent for me but travelling conditions have not changed any since I wrote you on the 9th if that was the date.  I will be anxious more untill I hear what you have to say on the subject.  We are going along A I  T. G.

The weather is mild no rain in a few weeks back the time does fly.   We are gone 6 months all but 3 days.  Do you miss us?  "How is your uxoriousness"?  You'll get over that says Mary.  Have you seen them lately?   Tell those people none of our business.

So your patience almost gave out over the mails.  Well I got so that I only wished for one letter before I got back but they came in twos and threes instead.  Have you heard from Eleanore?  I do hope she is well again.   Nancy and Sheila are growing fast.  Sheila is so bright and interesting and strong why she pushes Grandma right over and I wish you saw her rocking the horse.   You would think every second she would topple over she put the kitten in a pot of hot water last week.  I should think she will know you as we are all the time talking about you and she says she is your girl and that she will have cakie and tea with Daddy.   She talks like a child of three years.  She is wonderfully bright.  I got her another pair of shoes last week.  Nancy is weaving her wool stockings and heavy shoes.  She is growing very tall T. G. and she is not so subject to colds lately and that is very encouraging.  We had the mason 3 days last week and the house is much improved.  I expect more mail in the morning 3 days delivery now.  I will write on Mondays for to leave Wednesdays to catch the boat Fridays.  How is that.   Well no more.  Lots of love and kisses from your three big girls in Ireland.

Ever your loving wifey, Belle.
