Salvete FJCL!
We would like to thank everyone
for such a great year. All of us officers have had a wonderful
experience serving you for the 1999-2000 year and we owe that
experience to all the members who make the Florida Junior Classical
League possible. Without you, there would be no F JCL.
Since we had such a great year, we want
to pass that fun along to you at the 2000 State Forum! We have
come up with a lot of new ideas and have put them into action.
And Franco and Brian have even come up with new hairstyles! (Please
watch our entrance carefully!)
It is our sincere wish for everyone at Forum to have the
best time at the last forum of the millennium. Show us with your
F JCL spirit! Or better yet, tell us in person. We are here to
serve you.
Once again, thank you for giving us a great year and for
helping to ensure F JCL "Vivit et vivet per omnium saeculorum
memoriam."
Sincerely,
The 1999-2000 F JCL Officers:
Lisa Blumsack, President
Franco Fernandez, Vice-President
Amanda Wagner, Editor
Genevieve Sheehan, Recording Secretary
Caroline Shin, Corresponding Secretary
Emily Gillespie, Treasurer
Brie Aliaman, Parliamentarian
Brian O'Leary, Historian

Since I started taking Latin my freshman year, I knew that JCL was by far my favorite cclub. After a fantastic first year, I was elected club secretary and my friends (Ross, Kelsey, and Andy) and I set out to make JCL a major poowerhouse at Maclay. Club membership more that doubled in my second year. With Mr. Hall at the forefront of our operation we ranked impressively at forum, and had a blast doing it. As an advanced student, I am now the club president and our club is bigger and better than ever with a superfluous treasury, a new constitution, and tons of&voted, fun-loving members. I always looked upon F JCL officers with some degree of awe, but now I believe it is a logical step for Maclay JCL to provide Florida with a capable President.

Dear F JCL Members,
Having been a member of the F JCL and an officer of my local chapter for over a year I have come to realize, with great gratitude, the many gifts that membership has given me. As a member, I have been able to enhance my knowledge of both Latin language and culture, as well as to hone my leadership abilities. New avenues of thought and great works of literature have been opened as a result of my F JCL membership. It is due to my deep and heartfelt gratitude for all that it has given me, as well as my desire to contribute, in whatever way I may, that I wish to be an F JCL officer. It is my belief that I will be able to lead the F JCL into a golden age, while retaining the idealogics that has made it great.

Salvete,
In the past year I have had the privilegeof serving as your F JCL Recording Secretary. I have immensely enjoyed working with the other officers for this last State Forum of the millennium, and I would love to have the opportunity to work on the first State Forum of the new millennium as well.
As your F JCL President, I would continue to work with you and for you to serve F JCL. Being an F JCL officer takes responsibility and delegation. I would bring these qualities as well as my experience with F JCL to the office of President to make next year's State Forum as fun and successful as ever.

To Whom It May Concern:
Latin is not dead. I know because 1 can see it flourishing in the spirits ot the Florida Junior Classical League students. From school clubs to regional fora to state fora, and excitement of knowledge and friendships prevail. As a candidate for Recording Secretary, I wish to preserve this hype for Latin at next year's state forum. As far as experience, I have been a member of JCL for two years now, attending two regional fora and now my second state forum. I am active in many areas of my school and church, including three years of secretarial experience as a Band officer. However, I feel my strongest credential is my willingness to serve in this position. I wish to serve as Recording Secretary in order to aid in maintaining the thrill of previous state fora in next year's forum. I hope to help others to enjoy their JCL experiences as much as I enjoy my own. S
Sincerely, Kelly Betz

I have always liked politics. I like the way that a few people can be the voice of a larger group and in that representative fashion make things work efficiently for the benefit of the whole group. Being secretary is part of staying organized and efficient. I would like to be the next FJCL recording secretary because I want to make convention run as smoothly as possible and help the other officers do their jobs better by keeping accurate records of what we accomplish. My main goal is to make all the participants of the convention to have a wonderful time.
God Bless,

To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Melody Pugh, and I am running for recording secretary. I am presently a sophomore at Oak Hall High School, in Latin I~ and the VicePresident of my school's Latin Club. I have been attending Latin Forum since I was in the seventh grade. I want to be a State officer because I have been enriched so much over the years at the Latin Forum that I would like to contribute to what has become my favorite organization. I look forward to convention and meeting everyone there. I am sure that this convention will be as outstanding as all have been.

There are many reasons why I wish to be the Florida Junior Classical League Recording Secretary. I feel that I am very qualified for the position, and furthermore I would love to serve the Florida Junior Classical League in any capacity.
I believe that I meet and exceed the requiremenU for the recording secretary office. I was recently the 2000 Regional Corresponding Secretary and I am currently the historian of my school's Latin Club. I also possess many skills needed for a secretary. Most importantly, I am very organized. I also have a mind for details, and neat, legible handwriting. Furthermore, I have a tremendous amount of JCL spirit, and I am very dedicated to the study of the classics. I have thoroughly enjoyed my past JCL participation, and I would truly like to make a contribution, with both my time and my skills, to the organization.
For Parliamentarian....
Kevin Moore
Coral Gables Senior
Latin: II
I would like to be parliamentarian for FJCL because I know I can do the job and I can bring some additional spirit. I joined JCL my freshmen year of high school, and it was one of the most interesting and fun activities I have ever taken part in. I remember joining the club skeptically. The first time I heard of chariots and togas, I thought people were joking. I went to state, and that's when I saw what JCL was all about. The following year, I ran for Vicepresident of my local chapter and won. I was elected president for my junior year. I have attended the state forum every year and this year was my second regional. Last summer I attended The National Forum in Tallahassee.
I understand that as parliamentarian I will oversee elections and I will need to maintain order in business meetings. 1 am familiar with parliamentary procedure since I am involved with student government. I actually have my own copy of Robert's Rules of Order. I plan to fulfill the requirements of my job and help out in any other way that I can.

The purpose of the Parliamentary Procedure
is to assuage the conditions for people to work effectively at
a meeting,
and to help groups accomplish their
goals in a fair manner. I feel that I possess the essential ingredients
needed to be a successful Parliamentarian: knowledge, dedication,
and an optimistic attitude. I would love the opportunity to put
my knowledge and ability towards
ameliorating JCL.
To briefly elucidate my qualifications, I am currently the president of Fletcher's chapter of the JCL; a 2 year member of the Student Government Association (SGA), Science Honor Society and National Honor Society; and I also write for the school newspaper, which I shall be editor for next year. My dedication to each of these activities has supplied me with leadership experience and has bestowed upon me an introduction to the principles of Parliamentary Procedure. It would be my honor to represent YOU in OUR state JCL.

I want to be an F JCL officer because I have had so much fun being a part of JCL. It is important to me to have a greater part in the club that I like so much and has provided me with so many great experiences. I feel qualified and mn confident of doing the job well. As parliamentarian I can be a part of the decision making process and help to make next year's Forum the best.

Ever since I attended my first State Forum in Latin I, I have thoroughly enjoyed these competitions. All year I wait for them to roll about and I seem to like each year better than the last. The Florida Junior Classical League has given me so much enrichment and so many good times, that I have decided I really want to give back and help prepare State Forum for next year, my last year as a JCLer.
I see the officers work so hard for us to have a great forum every year and I would really enjoy planning forum for next year. I am dedicated in everything I do and I will do my job, if elected, as Parliamentarian to conduct meetings and also make State Forum 2001 the best one yet. I have studied up on Robert's Rule's of order and parliamentary procedures so I think I am prepared for the job. I will work hard and commit the time if I am elected.

Dear F JCL Members,
My name is William Sanchez and I am a freshman in Holy Cross
Academy. I love the Latin Forum and every year for the past three
years I have participated in this grandiose event. Every year,
I participate in a test, a declamation, and for the past two years
I have been in the certamen team. Now that I have become a high
school student, I believe it is time for me to undertake some
responsibility.
Responsibility is what makes a person great. Going to school
everyday helps me realize what my responsibility is. I have the
opportunity of going to a school with such a vast academic curriculum.
I believe that learning about responsibility and hard work helps
a person tin the future. I also have a lot of fun in the Forum.
There is always something to do and something to see in the Forum
every year. I know that if I am elected as parliamentarian, I
will help make next year's Forum the most fun it can be.
Whenever I have a great responsibility as president of my
class, I always take the problem seriously and devotedly. I know
that I will also treat the problems and responsibilities of the
F JCL seriously and will help make it a better organization. I
will help solve problems not just be word but by action.
Sincerely Yours, William Sanchez

When I left last year's state forum, knew I wanted to be an officer of F JCL. I wasn't quite sure what they did, or what I wanted to run for, I just wanted to run. In August I went to the 1999 N JCL convention. After the first night of state fellowship, I knew exactly what office I wanted to run for. I wanted to be the vice-president. That night I talked to my Latin teacher about how to run for office. By September I was pestering her about receiving the state packet. I am currently the editor of our local JCL publication, and I am extremely involved in the EHS Latin Club. I feel that I can bring creativity, efficiency and a sense of humor the the F JCL Forum. My first year of JCL has been incredible, and I want to take part in making the next year great.

I would most like to be an F JCL offleer because I wish to help bring the league to a new level, a step above the rest. I feel that being a wellrounded student, in both academic and extracurricular fields, would enable me to help promote the causes of the FJCL and assist me in fulfilling my duties as the league's Vice President. I am currently the Vice President/ President Elect of the Leesburg High Mu Alpha Theta Math Honors society, was formerly the Vice-Priesident of the LHS Latin Club, and have also served in various forms of student government. I am presently maintaining a 4.0 unwighted GPA and have participated in various levels of High School sports. Above all, I wish to make the event sponsored by the FJCLfun and enjoyable for all members of the league and all Latin students who partipate in them.

Salvetel My name is Brandon Hersh, ana, I am running for the office of Vice President. I possess a deep, overwhelming desire to serve as an F JCL officer because I know, understand and can sufficiently fulfill the duties of V.P.
Last year I noticed the inundating spirit, hard work, and undisputed dedication of my fellow F!oridians. On the other hand, State Forum still lacks the 'enticing charisma' that could lead us to many more State and National awards for spirit and involvement. That 'charisma' is one thing that, if elected, I can promise to deliver. Though it will be hard to top, I will make next year's Convention the greatest one ever by increasing the amount of new and innovative sporting, academic, and team-associated contests. I have sifted through hundreds of last year's surveys and I know what needs change. So please, vote for me, and together we can start off the new millennium right with awesome conventions]
Cum Amicitia,

[Why do I wish to serve as an F JCL officer?]
............... Because I can.
I can perform all duties required and expected of an F JCL Vice-President. Already, as the President of my own school's Latin Club, I take care of issues like publicity and communication between officers, members, and administration while completing any other tasks to make sure things go as planned. And just as I've helped run my club, I am able to serve the Florida Junior Classical League in any way necessary.
But why I am running is not because I can. I enjoy the JCL and want to give something back.
Latin is important to me. I've made enough friends and had enough good times to remember it for the rest of my life. But I want to remember that I did all I could to help the club which has given me so much. For this reason, I hope you'll choose me to be your vice-president.

Salve fellow JCLers! I hope you are enjoying the convention thus far. My name is Rachel Koch, and I would love to serve you as the next F JCL Vice-President.
In the two state and two national fora I have attended, I have been inspired by the spirit of JCLers. If elected Vice-President, I would be a part of organizing and planning the spirit activities of F JCL. Not only am I ready and willing to do this, but I'm also enthusiastic and dedicated to going beyond the call of duty to serve you.
I have the experience necessary to handle this position through serving as treasurer of my school's Student Council. In doing this, I learned to effectively handle the responsibility of an elected position. I believe this experience, combined with my love for JCL, has well prepared me to serve as your 2000-2001 Vice-President. Vote Koch (Sounds like Coke)!
