Veronica James was one of the first graduates of the Madhouse of Extreme, UWE’s training facility. Her natural toughness quickly drew the attention of manager Gillian S. Luger. Luger quickly signed the multi-talented rookie and toured the old Mid-South and Mid-Atlantic territories while waiting for UWE to officially begin operations.
It would a steamy night in Louisville, Kentucky that Veronica’s career would change forever. One of the teams in a scheduled women’s tag match no-showed. In desperate need for a second team, the promoter approached Luger about Veronica and her other charge, Dana Lewis. Though they lost, and were anything but impressive, Luger saw the potential of the two as a team. Thus, “The Starlight Express” was born.
The arrival of The Starlights, “Diva” Dana and “Vivacious” Veronica, makes many fans fondly remember days long past in professional wrestling. Many expect their battles with Hitomi Sakai and Megumi Takasugi, “The Rising Sun Express” to be classics and given the progress they’ve made as a team in such a short time, the UWE Women’s Universal Tag Titles could easily be the object of many of those battles.
• BIRMINGHAM BLAST-OFF: a version of the guillotine leg drop off the top rope, sometimes called the Alabama Jam.
• VEG-O-MATIC: a double-team move where the partner, usually Dana Lewis, puts the opponent in a bearhug, squats down, and holds her parallel to the mat as Veronica James leaps off the top rope with the BIRMINGHAM BLAST-OFF.
