About the 30 Hour Famine
Millions of children in the world have no hope that life will get better. 27,000 kids die every day from hunger and preventable causes. You can give them hope by doing one good thing... the 30 Hour Famine. Last year over 155,000 Canadian teens did something... they raised nearly $4,000,000 to help children who don't have access to clean water, medicine or enough food. Refuse to do nothing! Do the Famine today!
In 1971 a group of Canadians started the 30 Hour Famine. 32 years later the idea has spread throughout the world, to countries such as Great Britain, Australia, the US, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Japan. The central idea behind it is that people in schools, churches, youth organizations, businesses and individuals go without food or drink (besides water and juice) for 30 hours and collect sponsorships to raise money for, and awareness of, world hunger and poverty.
This year's donations collected by the 30 Hour Famine will fund youth focused programs in:
Canada
Cambodia
Ethiopia
Guatemala
Nicaragua
Kenya
Rwanda
Sri Lanka
Tanzania
Zambia
As well you will be helping communities which are suffering from:
WHY SHOULD I FAST?
Although you could simply collect sponsorships fasting for 30 hours can help participants relate to and appreciate what people in less developed nations experience on a regular basis.
HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IF I CAN'T FAST?
For those of you cannot fast from food for health reasons consider doing an alternative fast such as no junk food, or refraining from using television/computers. There are many alternatives to the regular fast, just remember the reason we choose to go with out food for 30 hours is to give us some idea of what it is like to live life in less developed nations so try to choose something that would create the same type of experience.
PLEASE DO NOT FAST IF YOU ARE...
If you are unsure please speak to your physician prior to fasting.
The funds you raise do make a difference... Refuse To Do Nothing!
