Biography: Born in Japan, soon after he was born, Ryo and his parents moved to Mexico, as his father was a computer engineer and could make more money in Mexico than in Japan. Growing up in a traditional Japanese household in Mexico, Ryo was torn between two cultures and a steady influx of a third, ending up becoming fluent in Mexican Spanish, Japanese, and English. While the two countries are very different, Ryo's father introduced Ryo to professional wrestling, one of his father's only affectations besides his work.

Growing up idolizing Riki Chòshþ and El Santo simultaneously, Ryo was torn again between cultures, and not entirely sure what exactly he wanted out of it, but Ryo knew that he did indeed want to wrestle professionally. With his father's blessing, Ryo began training in the PCCV Wrestling Academy in June of 2004. Earning the right to wear his Thunderbird mask, bestowed upon him by Enrique Justicia, his main trainer, Ryo quickly set out with his unique blend of Lucha Libre-style death-defying, high-flying moves, and high-speed Puroresu-influenced strikes. Finding a cult following due to his morbid fascination with the Mexican Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Ryo will sometimes swap his Thunderbird mask for a mask of a similar build, but with a skull design rather than a brightly colored bird motif. Whenever Ryo does this, he will call himself the Deathknight, and his entrance music will change to "Bleeding Heart", by Two Ton Boa. However, this change is only temporary, and only used when Ryo has to bring a darker side of himself to a match in order to beat a truly tough opponent. Capturing the PCCV Light Heavyweight Title, twice, once as the Thunderbird, once as the Deathknight, Ryo found a limited amount of success in the PCCV, but also found himself wanting to test himself against some new opponents, that he had never had the chance to face before. So, after losing the PCCV Light Heavyweight Title, Ryo began to look into Japanese federations willing to hire someone entirely unknown outside of Mexico except for two short title reigns
