About Me

The Cugir enterprise, having a tradition of over 200 years, represents the    guarantee of quality and high technical level products, appreciated both in the country and abroad. By the end of the l8th century it has emerged and developed a manufacturing factory for iron and steel of a very high purity. By the end of the l9th century, after having conquered many internal and external markets, Cugir started to make steel for tools and implicitly produced tools, equipments and machine component parts, as well.
         Over the years, the factory has been modernized and starting with 1948 began to manufacture single-spindle drilling machines, then universal grinding machines, internal and surface grinders, tool-grinding machines, universal milling machines for tool-maker's shops. These have been the early bases of the machinetool production which have carried the company's trademark and name all over the world.
         Since 1940, the enterprise has started to produce the first industrial sewing machine and in 1948, the first household sewing machine is made.

Afterwards the factory developed and diversified especially military products.

Armament and ammunition production structure developed depending on the requirements of Romanian army endowment, in time of peace and war, in accordance with foreign market.

          During the collaboration with the British company “Vickers Armstrong LTD”, the Cugir factory produced pieces and subassemblies for artillery techniques. The taking over by the Czech company “Zbrojowka – Brno”, led to the re-orientation of production to infantry armament and ammunition on the basis of license documentation. Due to a wealthy experience and a high technical potential , in 1941, the Cugir factory produced the first weapon of Romanian conception, 9 mm caliber machine gun, Parabellum, “Orita” type.

          Since 1945 the Cugir factory has produced military products corresponding to soviet technology.

          Today, at “ S.C. Uzina Mecanica Cugir S.A.” the investment “The modernization of the Manufacturing of Infantry Armament and Ammunition through Assimilation of NATO Products” is in final stage of homologation and accreditation.

          The acquisition of equipments and technologies corresponding to non-corrosive primer Boxer type and 5.56 , 7.62 , 12.7 mm infantry ammunition leads to a high level of automation, reduction of power demand, a special accuracy of execution, high quality of final product, increased flexibility and raised labor productivity. From the technical point of view our company has the modernest technology for brass cartridge case and non-corrosive ammunition ( specific to NATO ), fact that opens a large perspective concerning the subsequent assimilation of other types of ammunition.

      - ammunition: 5.56 mm NATO (5.56x45mm), 7.62 mm NATO (7.62x51mm),

       12.7 mm NATO (12.7x99 mm NATO), 9x19 mm (Parabellum)-in assimilation

      9x17 mm (Browning)-in assimilation, ex-soviet type ammunition

     - belts for small and medium calibers; magazines

       - spur gears and cylindrical gearings, straight bend gears, screw bevel gears, spiral wheels

         - pulley wheels; chain wheels

         - gall and cutting chains

         - electromagnetic clutches and brakes

         - cutting tools ( milling cutters, broaches, screw taps, threading dies, cams, drills, reamers and others)

- devices ( casts, stamping dies, mechanical and pneumatic devices)

- checkers (calibers, templates)

              - mechanical workings ( turning, drilling, threading, milling, broaching, grinding, honing)

       - heat treatments (hardening, normalising, annealing, tension releasing, carburizing, nitrating)

       - non-conventional working (electro-erosion with wire and with massive electrode )

S.C. UZINA MECANICA CUGIR S.A. implemented a quality system according to ISO 9001 and has the certification from TUV Bayern Sachsen Germany.

          Quality checking is assured by technical staff specialized in non-destructive testing, mechanical testing, chemical determination.
