This fall I heard about the Pet Parade in Salem, around Halloween. I used to make some clothing for my cats long time ago, when I had time. This seemed like a good opportunity to see if I still could hold a needle. Inspiration for the costume came from the dresses worn in the late Baroque, early Rococo period. For material I got red and gorgeous (hunter) green velvet. Half-way through the project, however; I found out that the dog, that suppose to ware the costume was not available. Thus, I had to cut short my sewing endeavors. The result is here. It lacks a pocket on the other side, lace for the other sleeve plus more fringe decorations and buttons.
I still decided to go to Salem and to check out the other costumes. I left for the Pet Parade from Waltham at around 12:30, trying to get there in time. Although, Halloween does not start ‘til Wednesday, there were tons of people with Salem exits backed up well unto 128. I decided to take few exits past route 114. This is actually a faster way to get to my destination. It was a good thing that I took my bike, with splitting traffic for miles I was not making a good time still. Once in Salem the parking was non-existent for the cages and all parking lots were full. The towing people had a big day. For me it was easy to park between two cars, near the Commons area. I arrived at the scene at 2:20pm, just to find out that the parade was over 15 min ago. Apparently it was not all that big. Cats decided to boycott the parade and there were not too many dogs.
Here is a little pooch dressed up as a bumblebee. I must say that the costume really went well with his personality.
Hello. I don’t know who I am, but this fuzzy stuph matches my “fur” color.
Hey look, it’s Dogzilla !!! This doggy was rather mild mannered to be a “terrible” saurus.
After seeing this little devil I start to really like Boston terriers. Hey come back!
I think that there is a general tendency for dog owners to dress them up either as angels or devils. This one was no exception.
I was not sure on this outfit. However, wings are nice for the height challenged.
