This was my first trip ever to the West coast in the Fall of 1998. Oregon has many scenic views. Even driving from airport and around Portland was amasing to me, who spent all these years in New England. I love mountains of Vermont, but this was just overwhelming. New England landscape is an ice rink compared to Rockies.

A few of us drove to the Cannon beach, not far West from Portland. I had never seen anything like this. The beach was completely flat for miles. However, from place to place there were massive rocks masses protruding from the sand. It's as though someone had dropped them there.

This rock is actualy bird's sanctuary with "no trespassing" signs posted everywhere. Naturally I needed to visit this marvelous structure. The birds nest up in the cliffs and I had no intentions to disturb them. I just wanted to get closer to the formation. Since it is located a bit off the beach, there are about 50 yeards of smaller rocks that lead to the big one. Once I was there I realised that the tide was coming in and that water was quickly cutting me off the beach.I was hopping from rock to rock trying to get back The water was really cold and I had no intentions to go swimming that day. As rocks were quickly submerging under water it was touche to pick the next location to jump to.

No endangered species were hurt during filming of this show.
