"Naamaavalees" (Naama Aavali) are a conglomaration of Naamaas (names) on the Ishta Dhevatha, whereas Keerthanaas describe the structure, features, qualities, gunaas, nature, achievements etc. of the lord more descriptively. Naamaavalees are easy to sing and short in word construction, simple in meaning and require only mere repetition in a given tune/raaga, which can vary with each singer or group or on different occasions in different tunes or raagaas. In Naamasankeerthanams, you will find more naamaavalees whereas in paddhathi bhajans, a naamaavali is taken up after a keerthanam. For group singing naamaavalees are ideal as it enables the audience to sing in chorus with the main singer.
You may click on the appropriate links on the left frame here and see the naaamaavalis on that God in tamizh scrtipts. To come back to this page, click on the "HOME" logo in the namaavali page. ![]() |
