Santa Cruz Beach Trip
March 22-23, 2003

We left Benicia at around 8:30 and arrived at the beach in Santa Cruz at around 11:00 to a fully overcast day that almost looked like rain (the weather forecast was partly cloudy). There we ate the bag lunch we brought with us and played in the sand. Rich and Mike went in the water (Rich with a wetsuit, Mike without) to go bodyboarding. Most others went into the water as well, for shorter periods of time. There was some playing catch with the football and the frisby. There was some tackling and sand throwing as well. Ian and Mike headed up our hole digging project, so by the end of the day we had 3 major holes and a tunnel connecting two of them. Near the end of the day, there were some airsoft wars, mainly between Mike and Ian, using the holes as cover. At around 3:00 we left for the campsite. There we ran some team building activities: all of the crew blindfolded except Mindy, carrying Mindy a ways, working as partners with one blind and the other leading him with words, and finally the whole crew blindfolded except for Max, with Max leading all of us with words for a distance. We then ate dinner of chicken marinated in italian dressing and spaghetti with salad and juice. For desert later we had a cherry and an apple cobbler. We opted to go bowling another time and instead retold old scouting stories around the campfire.

That morning we had pancakes and sausages and cereal with orange juice for breakfast. Then we set off for Hollister. Everyone gassed up their vehicles once we reached Hollister, and as soon as we made it to the off-roading park, Tom got stuck. Hopefully we'll get some pictures of it soon. It was raining by this time so we all got out in the rain and watched as Bryan pulled Tom's jeep back out. We all had fun exploring Hollister and Tom managed to get stuck once or twice more. We visited the campsite to see what it was like, then left and stopped at McDonald's for lunch, then headed home.
