Faeriellen On The Movies An invaluable site is Internet Movie Data Base http://www.imdb.com See someone in a movie you just know you’ve seen somewhere before but cannot place? This is the site for you, my Friend. Cross-reference between movies and actors, directors and writers, etc, you can spend hours here, going “Oh Yeah!” Movies I Love Godfather I & II Picnic-A slice of small town Americana in the mid fifties. One of my favorite parts is the picnic scenes, showing us the Labor Day festivites of our Mother's teen years (at least in my case) There's a veiled sexiness here. If it had been made today, there would no hiding the undertones, so I hope they don't remake it, cos my 8 year old daughter can enjoy this without realizing she is witnessing adult themes All About Eve The Trip To Bountiful A Night to Remember-Really the best Titanic movie, made in the 50's so there's no computer flashiness, but tell the story without fluff and nonsense. Still a tear jerker. Kenneth More plays Captain Lightoller, an important figure in the actual tragedy, gets sort of glossed over in the 1997 megamovie. Kenneth More was a greatly respected actor in his native Britian, I seen only a few of his pics but every one was very good. Selena—not a big Jennifer Lopez fan? It’s OK, this movie was made before she was JLo Gentlemen Prefers Blondes--"If we can't get in his pockets between the two of us, we're not worthy of the name 'Woman'." is one of the best movie quotes ever, I think. This is a great movie, catchy songs and dance numbers. Marilyn Monroe is Dumb as a fox in this movie. I think she may have fared better in real life if she had more like her character in this movie. Natural Born Killers—ok, you can either stand this movie or cannot stand it. Sure it’s about two vicious killers, but vicious killers do exist. It’s not so much the story that’s enjoyable, but the style in which it’s filmed. You HAVE TO pay attention; the blink of an eye can hide a flash of information. Plus it has, you should pardon the expression, a killer soundtrack On The Town-Great Cast, Great Songs, NEW YORK NEW YORK, Funny, Gene Kelly in a tight white sailor suit, what more do you need? The Apartment What A Way to Go Hot Spell-This is a great movie, I watch it often. It takes place in New Orleans, a fine study of a family of personalities. Poppa/Jack-Anthony Quinn turns in a very, very believable performance as a Cajun. He's a man hitting middle age, turning back the clock to his youth with a younger woman. Mama/Alma-Shirley Booth is the clinging wife, refusing to see the signs, but unable to ignore them. Virginia-Shirley MacLaine in one of her first movies, supporting character instead of her usual star status, wonderful none the less. Earl Holliman is Buddy, the oldest son, put upon by both parents, and used by them. Clint Kimbrough is Billy, the senstive younger son. The ending is ironic, Jack ends up the last place he wanted to go back to and Alma is strong in the end, but if she had been this strong all along, the problem probably wouldn't have come about. Don't want to give too much away, check it out for yourself. I had to buy a copy on Ebay, it's hard to find. The Bad Seed -Please see my Yahoo review Urban Cowboy--This movie reminds me of the between High School and 1st Marriage Phase me, that was what was going on at the time. I had me a felt cowboy hat with feathers and pins. Aside from that, you gotta love Bud and Sissy. Native New Jersyian John Travolta does an excellent Texas Good ol' boy. Of course, because of Scott Glenn's role, I never watch any Scott Glenn movie (good thing there's not too many of those) I Laffed My Heiney Off Shanghai Knights Silver Streak Cheezy but Fun The Guide for The Married Man (a cameo fest) Wha? They’re Classics, Watch ‘Em Once, then say to yourself “Wha?” Some movies you’re heard so much about but just never seem to catch them then when you do, you watch it waiting for something great or cinematically fabulous to happen, then when it doesn’t you stare at the TV screen, mouth hanging open, shaking your head, feeling empty. Lolita--A dirty ol'man and a dirty young (very) lady. This movie is o.k., I'd watch it again on tv, but couldn't be dedicated enough to purchase it. Peter Sellers has a goofy esscentric part. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory—I know this movie has its fond devotees, I just don’t understand why. My most unfavorite Gene Wilder movie. Horrible Movies I Wouldn’t Recommend to Someone I Didn’t Like The Life of David Gale--I invested two hours emotionally in a movie only to have the ending ruin anything I could have said good about it, which is hardly anything. Laura Linney's face bugged me the whole movie ("WHERE have I seen her?!") I'm not sure I can see another Kevin Spacey movie, I'm so pissed at him for this one. Darkness Falls--NOT SCARY. NOT THRILLING. STUPID. 'nuff said The Others--This movie has two redeeming features, A hell of a twist ending and it introduced me to "Book(s) of the Dead", a fancinating fad from yesteryear, albeit kinda SICK!!! The movie is a YAWNER! Cold Creek Manor--It rips off so many other movies it's not even funny. And it's not scary, suspenseful or anything else you may go to a movie like this for. Absolutely the worst performance I have ever seen Juliette Lewis in. Once is Enough Dragonfly |
If you can, get the DVD with 20 minutes added. They are included in the movie rather than being deleted scenes, they really flesh out the movie, perfect as it is, but we get a glimpse into why Stanzee hates Soliere so much. The extras on the DVD are excellent, too, interveiws with Tom Hulce, Elizabeth Berridge and F. Murray Abraham are enjoyabe and informative. |
I love Mafia Movies. I don't know any Mafia people, don't want to, would be totally freaked out if i did, but I love the flix, go figure. I've read the book this movie is based on and believe me, Henry Hill is TONS more likeable in the movie, he was on Howard Stern a few years back and he is equally iccky in print or radio. Definately not as charming as Ray Liotta portrays him. And speaking of Ray Liotta, he's got to have the bluest eyes on earth on there's plenty of closeups of them in this movie. Even my ex-hubby had to say, "he's a handsome guy" Robert DeNiro wonderful as usual. Joe Pesci CREEEEEPY. Super soundtrack. Love Lorraine Bracco. |

Many people, mostly women, love this movie, maybe it's the most famous movie ever made. Alot of authenticity went into this movie, the producers had southern historians and speech coaches on hand to make sure it was never a parody, but a true representation of the Old South, as a Southener I appreciate this. This movie is moving and beautifully filmed. The costumes are wonderful, but please remember, less than one percent of the population of the Old South lived in this sort of Pre-War opulence and Post-War was in reality far worse than portrayed. |
This is movie has it all, Elizabeth Taylor is beautiful, Rock Hudson is Handsome, James Dean is ....James Dean. The story scans about 30-40 years of a family, the characters age wonderfully and believeably. This movie is socially conscious, White and Mexican Texans are the catalysts here. This is one of Dennis Hooper's first movies and he's not a raving lunatic in it, that's a nice change. Carol Baker, who is in real life a little older than Liz Tayor plays her daughter. Earl Holiman, Chill Wills and Jane (Joshepine the Plumber) Withers round out the cast, along with other unforgetable character actors. |
Swords, sorcery, betrayal, loyality, knights, lords, ladies, very shiny armor, a witty and verbose Merlin....whats not to love? Dark ages gory and simple, it's only one of many cinematic versions of the Arthur legend. The scenery is lush and green. If you are not used to Britsh movies or not a fan of Britcoms, you may need to watch it a couple of times, or with subtitles to help with some of the verbage. Arthur goes from lanky uncoordinated boy to regal king, Guienvere....well she's always the problem, isn't she? The Lancelot is okay, but along the end, I'd like to smack him. Galahad, skipped. Morganna (Morgan Le Fey) is delightfully wicked, but her son Mordred is a punk! My favorite Merlin, Nicol Williamson. |
