Shenandoah River Chapter
Organized October 10, 1986
Shenandoah, Virginia
The Chapter was named for the Shenandoah River which flows through the towns of Elkton and Shenandoah. The Shenandoah River has been the lifeblood of the Shenandoah Valley throughout our history. Long before our ancestors looked down on the valley and the river that flowed through the land, the sparkling water of the river quenched the thirst of the Native American and the wildlife that sustained them.
The river became a mode of travel for the people and their industry, and wove the history of the valley. The water from the river refreshed their bodies from the toil of the land and their souls through its beauty. Just as the river was an important part of the history of our communities, it remains an important aspect of our futures.
The Valley took its name from the river that the Native American called "Daughter of the Stars" and we daughters proudly bear the name: The Shenandoah River Chapter, NSDAR.
