Susannah Chandler Chapter
Organized October 5, 2002
Locust Grove, Virginia
The name of the chapter was chosen after extensive research to find a woman who served bravely from Orange County, where the Susannah Chandler Chapter NSDAR is located. Susannah Chandler was a mother who lived in Orange County. During the American Revolution while the men and husbands, including her own husband were away fighting, she organized her neighbors to save the children from the British when they burned homes and destroyed property. She hid the children in the swamp land between Orange and Gordonsville and at her own home was only able to save one bedstead. Susannah was a very brave woman in Orange County, Virginia during the American Revolution.
