The Raven and the Rose

Then, Now, Forever
A candle now, a candle then
Throws shadows round a darkened room
Locked, two souls, two hearts, two minds
Remembering a day that's been
The memories of the wind-lapped lake
The sunlight on the forest floor
Boats tethered by the rocky shore
Capes tight wrapped, hooded heads
Fight the chill of shortening days
Leading on, the well cut path
That crosses meadow, dale and beck
To where she lays, the mother-home
Sat just beyond a hillside yet
To where the smoke drifts, gently rising
To house and stable, barn and shed
A warming fire, to smells well known
Those ancient walls that bar the night
That keep the love so safe within
Bound there by the hearth and loom
Eyes meet across a candle's flame
Locked, two souls, two hearts, two minds
Share knowledge of the lives to come
The love that's shared, now as then.
