This time round I would like to give some tips on how to optimise your dialup connection.

1)If you are not very effecient in remembering what you have to do once you connect to the net, try to note it down in a piece of paper. You can list the various websites you need to visit, what all you have to search for, What should be downloaded etc.

2)If you use an e-mail client like outlook, type the Emails you want to send, connect to the net and then send them instead of wasting the time typing.Similarly you can download the Emails in your inbox and disconnect. You can read it offline.

3) If you have read my previous mails you must remember PING. Ping lets you see the time in millisecond that a packet of data took to reach a host and return. You can use this to analyse your connection. goto start>run type ping -t www.0000000.com . repalce the 000000's with some website address. you will get the time in this format

Pinging www.0000000.com [IP address]with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128

Don't expect the time to be <10ms I got it because i pinged the localmachine. With this data you can analyse your connection.

4)If you frequently visit a site like your Email provider, you can add it to your bookmarks or you can save the page, then type the contents and click signin from then on.

5)Downloads usually take a good part of bandwidth so you can download when you are chatting or something, Then you won't notice the sluggishness. Also use some download manager like Getright[www.getright.com] which allow you to resume downloads and download a file as multiple chunks

6) Finally you can also use tools like Massdownloader that useup your entire bandwidth to download a file. This is faster but mind you you cannot do other browsing except chatting when you are using the software at maximum speed.
