Got my USB External storage to work in DOS - VERY handy for backing
up / restoring OS
I got my Western Digital IDE HDD to work with an external IDE-USB
thingy (easy IDE) in dos with these
drivers.
Apparently they work with a lot of USB storage devices. Allowed me to
build a boot floppy with Norton Ghost on so I could back up my system.
Will only detect primary DOS partitions as formatted on my drive though
- for some reason it says that the logical ppartitions are not, even
though they are. All the other stuff I tried (Iomega, DUSE, etc,etc..)
just wouldn't work at all on my system (Scenic Mobile 510)
The reason this is so useful (for me) is that if you (I) accidently
break your (my) operating system through constant fiddling... a
simple restore of a clean ghost image with dos booted from a floppy or
CD saves getting blood all over the keyboard.
The config.sys on my boot floppy looks like this.
device=USBASPI.SYS
device=Di1000dd.SYS
The autoexec is empty.
Hope this saves you all the time I spent trying out other things
that should have worked but didn't.
