Xultenians

The humanoid inhabitants of this world were once a passionate, violent people whose civilization was ravaged by war. Some two thousand years ago, the philosopher Serok convinced the Xultenians to suppress their turbulent emotions in favor of a doctrine that embraced pure logic. This became known as the Time of Awakening.

Xultenians society is now based entirely on logic; any trappings of emotion are considered socially unacceptable. (Visitors are advised to keep their emotional displays private for the duration of their stay on Xulten.)

One group did not accept Serok's teachings and instead left Xulten to found the warrior Roamers Star Empire. (They were named such due to the fact they willfully left their native homeworld to roam the galaxy in search of a new place to call "home.")

The only known exception to the Xultenians devotion to logic is the traditional mating ritual, based on a time when male Xultenians killed to obtain their mates. When Xultenian children are about seven standard years old, their parents select a future mate, and the two children are joined in a ceremony that links them telepathically. When the two children come of age, they are compelled to join together for the marriage rituals. The time of mating, Pon farr, is when the stoically logical Xultenians pay for their rigid control by experiencing a period of total emotional abandon. In Xultenian adults, Pon farr comes every seven years. The marriage ceremony is steeped in secrecy and is not open to outsiders.

Much has been said about Xultenian "mind-meld," not all of it true. Luke Skywalker had heard rumors of this ability and visited Xulten for a short time--during a period just before the New Republic fell--and was greatly disappointed in learning that the ability did not stem from innate Force sensitivity; learning that this ability is more closely related to the Gotal's sensory cones or horns. Simply put, a "mind-meld" is a telepathic link initiated by physical contact between two individuals, only one of whom needs to be a Xultenian. It is considered a deeply personal encounter, one unlikely to be shared with casual visitors. Although the telepathic ability is quite limited, it has been reported that one Xultenian felt the death throes of 400 Xultenian crew members on a starship across the sector.

The traveler must always keep in mind that Xulten is not a friendly environment to many species. Its heat, high gravity, and dry, thin atmosphere place a great physical strain on most offworld sentients who spend any time there. Because Xulten has a higher gravity and its atmosphere thinner, Xultenians demonstrate greater physical strength and more acute hearing than humans when on most other planets.

Xultenians have a secondary eyelid to protect their eyes against naked sunlight, but visitors should consider sun visors when visiting Xulten due to the systems sun being so intense as to cause damage to sight organs.

Xultenians are also long-lived. It's not unusual for them to reach two hundred and fifty standard years old without showing any loss of intellectual capacity.

A Xultenian's heart is located where a human's liver is. When injured, Xultenians concentrate their strength, blood (which is green colored), and antibodies onto the injured organs in a type of self-induced hypnosis.

Xultenians have pointed ears and eyebrows that flare out and up from the brow ridge. The eyebrows are straight, rather than human's curved eyebrows, and give the appearance of being continually annoyed.
