 West Side Reunion

Nilo, Rey, Mommy Luming, Gretchen and Jerry "Duroy" Teodoro

Welcome to the last minute club.  It's long weekend in Canada and instead of driving out of town, we decided to stay and get a chance to see Jerry Teodoro.  The 3 stooges of Toronto...Val Buzon, Rey Bisda and Nilo Espino decided to get together at Val's place at West Side Drive in Unionville to meet Jerry.  Rey and family are as prompt as usual.  Few minutes after, Jerry called and he got off the wrong bus stop...so I came down to fetch him. He was one bus stop away.  He was sitting on the bench in front of Markville Secondary School but I wasn't sure if that was him.  He was wearing funky shades and man is he much healthier compared to how he was in high school.  Gee, it was so much fun to see Duroy after all these years.  Nilo who drove all way from Mississauga arrived after 5 minutes after Jerry.   He commented that we are growing in numbers in Toronto.

We started browsing and reminiscing high school through the photocopied 1978 yearbook brought by Rey.  We opened 2 bottles of non-alcoholic wine while chit chatting.  Then we started digging in the lunch prepared by Chona and her Mom.  We had some lumpiang sariwa na ala Goldilocks..."sarap ng maraming bawang!" courtesy of  Mommy Luming. She also cook some pansit.  Chona prepared some Costco-fresh barbequed steak. Gretchen brought some fried sushi.  With halo-halo as desert, we started talking about batchmates while Gretchen is watching the TFC....Talk TV ata ang palabas.  Meanwhile our kids and the Bisda kids are busy playing in the basement and tried the ping-pong in the garage. (Jerry's family by the way did not make it because they have visitors few days before and they hardly had any sleep....nice of Jerry to come in spite of that.)  Then we talked about our little experiences here in Canada.

The Torontonians...Nilo, Val, Jerry and Rey

Then we had a little conversation on my new home-based business.  Then I took Jerry to the basement where I set-up the projector to see the AfterMath78 which is currently out of commision in the website but we were viewing it directly from my hard drive.  We were almost done when Rey, Chona and Nilo came down to join us.  We proceeded with the older issues of KaEskwela.  Duroy so happy to see pictures of our batchmates and we gave him a quiz on who's who and a lot of times he couldn't recognize who's in the pictures....it's either they grow in their belly or lose their hair.  Nilo while shooting pools with the kids ocasionally look when he sees someone he recognize in the batch.

Nilo was the first one to leave.  Chat a bit more with Jerry then I dropped him off to a bus stop where he headed down to Toronto to see another friend.  Rey and Gretchen stay for a bit but since it is the start of school the next day, they decided to head home.  It was an afternoon of laughter and fun and for sure it will be the start of a bigger and better Toronto group.  Jerry said he will bring his family next time. Eidee and kids, please come next time.

Nilo snapped one shot of the 3 batchmates.
