Physical Description:
Kat stands at approximately 5'4 with very good posture and weighs about 100 lbs (not very big for her age). She has an athletic build which worked well with her occupation of a stable hand then a member of the Guard. Her muscles are finely toned but often hidden under loose clothing. She has a very tanned complexion (which somehow remains a nice bronze even in winter) to go with her shoulder blade-length dark brown hair which is often tied back in a ponytail. The strangest feature on her is her pale blue eyes. She often wears a serious expression but smiles and grins do appear on her face from time to time. Personality/Attitude:
Kat is clever and inventive and when faced with a problem she has a tendency to come up with more intuitive solutions that keep the problem fixed for a long time rather than the fix-it-now solutions. She is very friendly and has absolutely no trouble with approaching and befriending new people. Generally speaking, she is has a fairly mellow attitude though if something bugs her long enough, she snaps and becomes a VERY angry person. Her loyalty to her friends is very important to her and she would risk her life for those she cares about.

Her major vice is that she sometimes gets a little too passionate about her hopes of ridding the world of the things she fought against as a member of the Guard. She has a great love of children and the worst thing in the world for her is to have to know that children are suffering. When a child is involved she has a tendency to act and think later which can get her into trouble.

Brief History:
Born to a family of ranchers, she learned all about horses and caring for them at a young age. She was also fortunate enough to live near a school that taught not only the basic arithmetic’s and academic courses, but sword work and archery as well. She practiced hard at the physical skills of fighting and became a deadly horseback archer. At 15, she graduated the school but continued her studies far from home. Upon her horse, Meishka (a massive mare with some Shin'a'in Battlesteed blood in her), Kat was a force to be reckoned with. At 16, she joined the Guard and quickly worked her way up the ranks until the next year she was stationed at Haven. When a group of men was discovered selling children, Kat and her troop were sent in to put an end to the child slavery, she discovered she had a Gift and was Chosen.

(Her horse was then donated to the Guard)

Goals:
She has high hopes of ridding the world of the filth that roams even the streets of Haven. When she joined the Guard she was introduced to some of the horrors that exist in the world (such as the people selling children for various purposes).

Personality: Kaytala is strong and supportive just like her Chosen and has a serious side as well as a goofy side. She loves nothing more than to tease her Chosen and mock insult her but she doesn't feel bad about it because Kat can hold her own against the Companion.

I absolutely love Mercedes Lackey’s books! The first one I read was Brightly Burning about six years ago and ever since then I’ve not been able to put her books down! I’ve been looking for a Heralds of Valdemar RPG for a couple of years now and I finally came across one when I was doing a search for fish farming for a socials project (oh the mysteries of Google…) and I just about had a heart attack.
