Name:
Quickwind K'Shira
Age/Sex:
21/Female
Physical Description:
Like other scouts, Quickwind's hair is kept short, mid-back at its
longest, and dyed to match her surroundings. When not dyed, her
hair only shows a very minimum of white, as she is no mage and is
often out patrolling when mages do most of their magic. Her eyes
are an odd light brown, more of an amber-orange color than an actual
brown. Quickwind stands around five and a half feet, fairly average
for her age and build. She weighs just over a hundred and twenty
pounds, and swears that her weight would double, triple, had she
been born mage and had to wear their dress!
When on patrol and not, Quickwind tends to wear the loose,
comfortable scouts outfit. She has her share of formal dresswear,
however, and will wear it for celebrations and other formal
occasions. Of course, it is more than likely that if she didn't
elect to wear the fancy outfits on her own that Quickwind would find
herself tied down and forced into the stuff by a hertasi or three.
Personality/Attitude:
Quickwind is an ordinary scout, and tends to think of all situations
from that perspective. She tends towards the quiet side, electing
to speak only when necessary. Not to say she is shy - completely
the opposite! Quickwind has pulled more than her share of tricks
and pranks, and is often surprised that a raven or crow has not
bonded to her.
She tends to think things through before offering advice, which is
another trait that most Tayledras share.
Like most other Tayledras, when Quickwind is not on patrol, she
loves designing, either clothes or redecorating her Vale. She is
fairly good with needle and thread, and is able to barter clothing
for other items within the Vale. She also enjoys working with wood,
although is not as good with it as many other crafters.
Brief History:
Quickwind was born Moonflower, which wasn't too bad compared to many
of her year mate's birthnames. Her father is Sharpmind, a mage of
average abilities who prefers working with plants, and her mother is
Starbird, who comes from another Vale and who was a scout until a
cold-drake attacked and maimed her leg before it could be killed.
Moonflower had an ordinary childhood, playing with her friends and
attending lessons by the older Tayledras. She got into her share of
trouble, and was scolded for it, but also did her share of helping
out. Hertasi dressed her up like a live doll whenever she wished,
until she was old enough to do it for herself.
Her father was disappointed when she turned out to have no Gift, but
Starbird was more than eager to teach her offspring when Moonflower
showed an interest in being a scout. Starbird was only the first of
her teachers, however. Moonflower became adept at tracking and
moving stealthily, as well as at hunting and tracking.
She lived in her parents ekele until she reached the age of
maturity. At that time, Moonflower chose her own ekele near the
entrance of the Vale, which just so happened to be close to a set of
hot springs. After only a few patrols, none of which saw anything
more lively than hunting for her birds, Moonflower earned the name
Quickwind for her speed. The name was accepted by the Vale as well
as by her, and it stuck.
Her life has gone smoothly, with none of the trama that others go
through by loosing parents or being injured past scratches and
scraps. As for lovers... Quickwind has had her share of those, but
none have lasted longer than a few days or weeks. Which Quickwind
doesn't mind, for all she is looking for at this time is temporary
comfort.
Goals in life:
Her goal in life is simple - to be the best person she can be, and
to help the Vale to the best of her abilities. She has no dreams of
getting Chosen and getting carried off to the distant land of
Valdemar, just as she has no dreams of acquiring one of the Cousin's
battlemares. Becoming mated and having children isn't one of her
priorities, but she thinks it would be nice - one day.
Bondbirds:
Quickwind flies two birds, an owl, easily half again the size of
it's wild counterparts, named Kai and a red-tailed hawk named Kerr.
Having two birds (both male) makes scouting easier, both during the
day and at night, but makes keeping both of them fed somewhat more
difficult, as well as all of the difficulties brought on by lugging
two large and heavy birds about. Neither bird shows more than a
very faint lightening of coloration, which is not noticible unless
the feathers are compared to anothers.
Gifts:
No magical gifts, but her Vale claims that her speed, skill with
weapons, and her tracking abilities are Gifts all their own. Just
like it should be with a scout, is Quickwind's often reply.
Position:
Day and night patrol scout for the Tayledras
