The Reunion
By Jessie Valentine
It was one of those split second,
Take your breath away, kind of moments.
I felt you walk in the room,
Before you even arrived.
And I knew the moment I sensed you,
That the rest of my life was about to begin.
What was it about you that made time stand still?
The breeze that carried you in
Warmed the room, and left me trembling.
My eyes misted with anticipation.
When your image was finally visible to me,
You were the only thing I could see.
Then, you danced across the floor
And came to me with a smile.
"May I have this dance?"
You asked into my eyes.
And when I took your hand,
You twirled me around the room.
You danced me close.
"I've loved you all of my life,"
You whispered to my ear.
Then, as our song ended,
Bette's "Wind Beneath My Wings",
You slowly stepped back.
You bent to give me one final kiss,
Before the last note was over.
And when you finally turned and left the room,
I had to look away.
Then, I found myself standing there alone,
Weeping, in the misty silence of my dream.
