What're you doing up so early
it isn't even nine,
Don't tell you remembered
today is Valentines?
I thought you'd have a lie-in
you got in awfully late
We still have plenty of time
for us to celebrate.

Just wait a minute, darling
I haven't yet woke up
I need to have my coffee,
and this is my second cup!
Ooh, is that for me, dear,
you are so very kind,
Now run along, I'm busy
and I haven't got much time.

I have to do the dishes
they're still in the sink
And the floors will need sweeping,
what else ~ I hate to think!
I have a load of washing
if you want to help me out
But don't press every button
or it will jump about.

Oh Henry, what is it darling
why such a long face?
You know that I have work to do
I must clean up this place ~
Why? you dare to ask me
don't tell me you forgot....
You asked your mother over
and she'll pick up every spot!

Come on now, don't complain
she is your mother,
And darling it was your idea
to ask her to come over ~
Now hurry, get these chores done
it must be spick and span,
I know you're disappointed,
believe me I understand!

Henry, what are you doing!?
put me down at once,
Now where are you taking me;
the dishes, they're not done!
This is not a good idea, darling,
we haven't got the time
Your mother will be over
a little after nine!

What? No, don't you call her
she won't understand,
You know she will be furious
that you've ruined all her plans!
Alright, it's your funeral ~
so what did she say?
I know she isn't happy,
but you sure will be today....

OOh, Henry, that really tickles
but I don't really mind
Just wrap your arms around me
and let's forget about the time ~
Let's not worry about the dishes,
the washing or the floor,
Let's spend the day together
making love more and more.

I know I'm not always glamorous
but you know that I love you
For I couldn't imagine, darling,
ever living without you ~
Through all our ups and our downs
together we have shared
So many happy moments
in a love beyond compare.

So Henry, what I'm saying
you simply are the best
You bring something to my life
that's filled with happiness ~
And today I want to tell you
how much that I love you,
Happy Valentines Day, my sweetheart,
my love forever true.

"This poem is a lighthearted look at a couple, probably past their prime, on Valentine's Day.   We usually see the woman as the instigator of romance, but in this case it is the man who attempts to be romantic on Valentine's Day....only for it to go unnoticed....almost.   We then journey through early mornings, mother-in-laws, household chores and finally to romance.   The husband cancels his mother's visit (probably to her chagrin) and spends a day romancing the woman he married."
