Chapter 22

“What do you mean, you don't know where Carly is?" Alexis asked, suddenly worried about her friend.

"How could Sonny and Carly just disappear?" Luke asked, moving closer to Alexis.  He could tell that she was worried about Carly and he had a feeling that she knew something that he didn't.  He didn't like being left out of the loop.

"I don't know," Johnny whispered, his eyes still cast downward.

"Oh God," Alexis gasped.

Johnny’s eyes left the floor and snapped up to met Alexis’s terrified ones.  "The boss said he and Mrs. Morgan would be fine.  I dropped them off in front of the elevator in the parking garage.  I watched them get in the elevator myself.”

"So where are they now!" Alexis yelled, panicking.  She knew from experience that if Helena did have Carly, then she was in serious danger.

"I'm sorry Ms. Davis, I don't know.  Francis was on duty last night and when I came back to relieve him he wasn't there and neither was the boss or Mrs. Morgan," Johnny said, swallowing hard under Luke and Alexis’s  intense stares.

"So have you checked in with Benny?" Luke asked.

"Yes.  He hasn’t heard from Sonny since yesterday."

"Damn!" Luke cursed, suddenly feeling the same desperation Alexis was.  He knew when someone was being straight up with him.  "What are you not saying Johnny?"

"There were traces of blood by the door and near the elevator."

"Oh my God!" Alexis gasped, as Jax moved to her side, noticing his wife’s distress.

"Alexis, honey what's going on?" he asked giving the two men an evil look for upsetting his wife.

"Carly is missing.  So is Sonny!" Alexis cried, falling into Jax’s warm embrace.

"Shh, it's okay," Jax said, trying to comfort her.

Luke frowned.  He had never met this man before and he didn’t like the look he was getting from him.  Besides he was just a little too friendly with Natasha.

"Natasha, have you been holding out on me," Luke asked, still frowning.

Alexis pulled away from Jax, having momentarily forgotten about Luke and Johnny in the safety of Jax’s arms.  He had this amazing ability to make her feel wonderful and to forget all about the rest of the world.  "Oh, how rude of me.  Jax, this is Luke Spencer, Lucky's father and this is Johnny, Sonny's bodyguard," Alexis explained to her husband, while Luke and Jax had a stare down.  Both men instantly disliked each other but neither knew why.  Maybe it was because Luke had a special  place in his heart for Alexis and didn't want to see her hurt.  And Jax didn't like the way Luke Spencer looked at his wife.

"Nice to met you!" Jax greeted stiffly.

"How long have you known Natasha?"  Luke couldn't help but ask, seeing the way they looked at each other and how Alexis allowed herself to be pulled into Jax’s embrace.

Alexis noticed the tension between her old friend and her husband and groaned inwardly.  She knew Luke had feelings for her but he would never admit to them.  Just like she would never admit her affections for him.  "Luke, Jax is my husband," Alexis stated quietly and watched the expression on Luke’s face darken.

"I see," Luke said, looking closely at Alexis.  They held each others gaze, until Johnny cleared his throat, reminding them that they had more important things to worry about at the moment.

Luke tore his gaze from Alexis and her new husband and looked to a worried Johnny.  "Call Benny and tell him I want to met with him, NOW!"

"If Helena has her..." Alexis said before she could stop herself.

Luke stopped in his tracks and turned back to Alexis.  "What do you know that I don't?  Does the old bat have Michael?"

Alexis closed her eyes, as a tear slid down her cheek.  "I don't know Luke but Sonny and Carly believed that she did," Alexis said hoping that Luke would accept her answer and leave the rest alone.  She didn’t want to have to go into detail on something that wasn’t her place to explain.

"Why would Helena want Michael?" Luke asked, confused as hell.

"You should talk to Bobbie, Luke," Alexis said, as Jax gently squeezed her hand for support.

"Why?" Luke asked, immediately scared for his family.

"Talk to her Luke.  It’s not my place to say anymore.  I need to go.  I have a lot of work to do on Lucky's case.  Please call me if you hear from Sonny or Carly!"

"I will.  I'm sure they’ll turn up!" Luke said, his voice hopeful but that hope didn’t reach his eyes.

Alexis watched as Luke and Johnny walked away.  Jax wrapped his arm around her waist.  "I'm sure Luke is right, her and Sonny will turn up," Jax said trying to reassure her.

"You don't know my family Jax.  If Helena has them..." Alexis didn't say anymore.  She wasn't willing to let her mind go to those dark places.

"You ready to get out of here?"

"Yes," she whispered.  She took his hand and they walked out of the courthouse together.

Ari led Carly down a long, dark corridor.  She didn't know where she was but she was positive that she wasn't in Port Charles any longer.  In fact, she didn't think she was in The States period.

"Where are you taking me?" she demanded but silence was her only answer.  "Where is my baby!" Carly tried again, desperate to make some sense out of this bizarre situation.  Ari kept walking until they came to a door, never uttering a word.  He opened the heavy wooden door and ushered her inside, closing the door behind her.

"Wait!" Carly screamed, realizing that he was locking her inside.

"Caroline, there is no need for all the fuss.  You will scare Michael," Helena said, appearing out of the shadows in the dark room holding her baby.

"My baby!" Carly sobbed rushing toward Helena.  She allowed Carly to take her son.

"Oh baby, Mommy has missed you so much."

Helena watched her granddaughter with her son.  It was such a pity that she wasn't Stavros’s daughter.  If she was, things would be different, Helena thought.

"Ari!" Helena called.  He appeared from behind another door on the opposite side of the room.

"Take Michael!" Helena ordered.

"NO!" Carly screamed.  "You’re not taking my baby anywhere!" Carly vowed, holding Michael tight against her chest.

"Now Caroline, if I was going to harm Michael, I would had done it already,” Helena reasoned, before taking Michael from Carly’s arms, despite her pleas.

Ari and her son disappeared.  "Where is he taking my son?" Carly questioned, keeping her voice
firm.

"How much do you love Michael?"

"With all my heart.  He’s my life!"

"So there isn't anything you wouldn't do for him?"

"Of course not.  I would die for Michael!"

"What about Mr. Corinthos?" Helena asked, a wicked smile appearing on her face.

"What have you done to Sonny?"  Carly demanded moving in front of her grandmother, her hands on her hips.  "If you’ve hurt him..."

"No need to be so dramatic.  Mr. Corinthos is alive...at least for now," Helena said, walking toward the door Ari had just left through and waited for Carly to follow her.

They went down a hallway and into another room.  Carly stepped inside the room and gasped in shock and horror.  Sonny was lying in a hospital-type bed, an IV attached to his body as well as a monitor displaying his vital signs.

"Oh God.  Sonny!" Carly cried, rushing to her lover’s side.  His eyes were closed and he didn't open them.  He couldn't.  "What have you done to him?" Carly asked, touching his face gently.

"His life is in your hands."

Carly turned quickly, meeting Helena’s cold, evil eyes.  "What does that mean!"

"You have something I want!"

"What is it?" Carly asked, terrified as to what she possibly had that Helena would go to such great lengths to get.

Emily ran down the docks, her vision blurred from her tears.  Lucky was paying for her sins and she hated herself for allowing it.  She should never have gone to Lucky that night.

She wasn’t paying attention to where she was going and she ran right into someone, almost knocking them over.  "Oh, I'm so sorry!" she said, without looking up, grabbing his arm to steady them both.

"It's okay.  No damage done," the handsome stranger said.

She looked into his handsome face.  He smiled at her sweetly.  "I'm new in town.  My name’s Zander Smith.

"Jax, where are we going?" Alexis asked, not wanting to be too far from town in case Carly and Sonny were found or if someone had news as to their whereabouts.

"Be patient Alexis, we’re almost there," he said, casting a brief look at her before turning his attention back to the road.

He came to a stop in front of a two story house.  "Where are we?" Alexis asked, looking at the beautiful house before her.  As they got out of the car, her question was answered.

The front door flew open and Maddie came running down the porch steps to greet her father and new mother.

"Daddy!  Mommy !" she called, rushing straight to Alexis.

Tears filled Alexis’s eyes, as she opened her arms and heart to her step daughter.

"Hi sweetheart!"
