| Third Semester at SUA focuses on the period spanning from 1660 to 1798, which comprises the periods known as the Restoration and the Enlightenment. The Main Module consists of three sections, each one containing two topics. Students and Tutor must choose one topic from each section to discuss in the tutorship. Section I 1. Satire John Dryden Mack Felcknoe Jonathan Swift A Modest Proposal The Battle of the Books Gulliver's Travels, Book IV Alexander Pope The Rape of the Lock John Gay The Beggar's Opera 4. Criticism John Dryden The Poetic Process ("Wit and Fancy") Critical Issues ("Comedy and Farce") Critical Judgments ("Shakespeare and Jonson; Chaucer") Alexander Pope "An Essay on Criticism" Samuel Johnson The Preface to Shakespeare Notes to Shakespeare. * You ought to read all the above-mentioned essays.
