In the end, everything worked out.
Cirrus and Eve made a show of ‘returning’ the ‘kidnapped’ Shifter to his town. They got paid, left, and Shifter promptly packed up his own possessions and followed them. He wasn’t about to be stuck in his know nothing town for the rest of his life. Especially after his experience. Why not be a hunter? Travel. See the world. And best of all, drink without dealing with other people whining about it.
Arcane wound up slinking off again. While she enjoyed hunting and all of its pleasure, she also had a desire to settle down in a small house with a small life and simply relax. She found another small town with a tolerance for dhampir and built herself a house on the outskirts. When all was said and done it was modest but accommodating. And so she lived there, filling her days with music and reading and general lounging about.
That was until he came to visit.
One night, after dinner, there came a knock at the door. Summer was in full force and the heat was close to unbearable which would explain why Arcane had just stepped out of her third shower of the day. She’d hurried to dress in a pair of comfy black capris and a matching black tank top before answering the door. When she saw who it was, she took a step back to allow him entrance. “Well if it isn’t the hero. Come on in.”
She closed the door behind him and led him into the living room, offering him a seat. He stood. She went to the fridge and got herself a beer, giving him a sideways glance. “I’d offer you one, but you’d turn it down. So lets get right to the point. What do you want?”
He stared at her for a minute. “I need your help. A hunt.”
“It must have taken a lot for you to come and ask for help. I’ve always heard you’re such a lone wolf,” she snapped the top of the beer open and drank half of it in a single gulp. Wiping the corners of her mouth with her thumb, she nodded. “All right. Just let me get my gear and we can go.”
“Do you know anyone else who can aid us as well?”
Arcane grinned. “Now that you mention it, D, I can think of three people who would be perfect for the job.”
