History of Vallejo Bible College (VBC)

Long before God laid the foundation of the earth, He purposed in His Spirit the “birthing forth” of the Vallejo Bible College (VBC). In about 1995, God placed in the spirit of Rev. Kevin Gordon the desire and passion to organize an institution of higher learning of the Word of God.

In obedience to God’s Will, Rev. Gordon (VBC’s President), sought the assistance of Dr. Anthony Braxton (VBC’s Vice President and Pastor of the True Faith Missionary Baptist Church), and Sis. Willi M. Lawson (VBC’s Administrative Assistant) to incorporate and organize a Bible college. VBC became incorporated as an entity on April 9, 2001. In that same year (August 18, 2001), the Lord blessed the college to receive compliance approval for being a religious school (Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education). Shortly following that blessing, VBC acquired its tax exempt status from both the state and federal governments.

VBC launched its inaugural academic year in the Fall of 2002, with 18 students, 3 teachers and 3 staff members. Classes were held (and continues to be held) in the Fellowship Hall of the Tabernacle of David Missionary Baptist Church (Rev. R.L. McCray, Pastor). The first VBC class convened Monday, September 9, 2002; the subject taught was “Old Testament Survey I” (Dr. Anthony Braxton, Instructor). Two other classes were offered during that first session: “Evangelism” (Dr. Carroll Broadfoot, Instructor), and “Romans” (Rev. Kevin Gordon, Instructor). The school was blessed to have its first substitute teacher (Sis. Valerie Bailey) to conduct the first sessions of the “Evangelism” class, in the absence to Dr. Broadfoot.

VBC has truly been blessed through the kindness and caring of Pastor McCray, who has been gracious enough to allow VBC to hold classes at Tabernacle of David. VBC’s initial classes were held in the “under-construction” Fellowship Hall of Tabernacle. We are now housed in the newly remodeled Fellowship Hall, and soon to be moving into the new classroom facilities at Tabernacle.

VBC continues to grow in the Grace and Favor of God. Current enrollment has increased by 85%, with a total student enrollment of 35 students (Fall Quarter 2005). The average GPA during the first quarter of VBC was 3.59. VBC currently supports two foreign missions: Equator Faith Mission and Love and Light Mission/EWOGM. The college views this as an opportunity to continue the spread of the Gospel. Prayerfully, and with God’s blessings, VBC will support more ministries and missions throughout the world.
