What's Happening This Month December 2000

We have a lot going on this month!  We will be running an author study of Jan Brett through the entire month.  Brett has written "The Gingerbread Baby," "The Mitten," and "The Trouble with Trolls" along with many other wonderful stories!  To find out more about Jan Brett click on the link below.

We will have a Christmas tree in our room during December and we will be decorating it during the entire month.  Check back soon for a picture of our tree and other holiday decorations. We are also looking forward to our holiday sing-a-long with Mrs. Roy.  We always love when she visits our room!

Our first unit for the month of December will be a literature study of "The Gingerbread Man."  We will be reading several different versions of the story and comparing them.  Our centers will have a gingerbread man theme.  We also will be baking gingerbread men and decorating a gingerbread house.  Check our calendar page for a link to the entire unit. The second week of December we will be discussing Christmas and December Celebrations around the world.  Everyday we will be learning about and celebrating a new holiday from a different part of the world!

The third week of December we will be learning about Christmas and Winter Holidays in America.  During this week we will talk about Hanukkah, Kwanzaa. and various Christmas traditions in the US.
