Forgiveness

by Sondra Thornton

Lord, how we want your forgiveness and those of others. However we wallow about in the mud of our offensive sin wanting amnesty, not acknowledging our guilt. Seeing our motives as right, just, and innocent justified in self-righteousness.

However the table turns when forgiveness is asked of us. Our carnal nature stands as judge, jury, and executioner. We are so busy keeping score, screaming in anger 'you owe, you must pay,' we miss the Savior standing there, arm around the accused. We miss the accused's empty pockets and the pain our demanded payment brings. We miss the nail scared hands comforting our accused. "I have paid it all, your debt is forgiven." My gracious Father forgives me of my unforgiving nature, my judgmental attitude, my denial of the power of the cross. May your gracious forgiveness flow out of us to all we encounter.
