"I’m about to start behaving badly - somebody stop me!" - Geraldene

Tracey and CorneliaThis is Tracey, commanding chief of the fashion police (she's a model and knows it...) with me in the pic. "There are just too many bad hairstyles in here for one room!" - Tracey. She has been my longest standing friend in Johannesburg. Last year in particular, we were notorious partners in crime. Let's just say that Tracey's been there with me ever time I've been caught with my pants down... and visa versa. But hell, it's been fun! Not much has changed. We've spent many a night on the weekend helping each our throw our names away. I will never forget the night she announced at 5am, "I'm so trashed! I’m as fried as a boiled egg on heat." And that was with still 3 hours till bedtime. We chose to wake the neighbours up with slurred jabbering and laughing at the top of our voices while lying in my car outside her house (legs hanging out the doors) listening to loud 80's music (that's all they play on the radio on a Sunday morning).

Cornelia & GeraldeneBut it wasn't only Tracey and I that were waking up the neighbours that morning. Nowadays it's seldom only Tracey and I scaring the old people and children on the streets at night. It just wouldn't be the same without Geraldene (left pic). The three of us go by ridiculous nicknames: I've been given the title "Porn queen of Divas", Trace is the -"Pomp" (Afrikaans slang for "fucking") queen of Pofadder (a funny little Afrikaans town in South Africa whose name means snake), and Geraldene is the "Pool queen of Benoni (the suburb she lives in). This is because Geraldene (who believes she was a deranged insect in a previous life) plays a mean game of pool.

"Not much happening in the land of UNFAB (unfabulous) right now. I would rather be having sexual intercourse with a porcupine than crucifying the hours of this week!" - Geraldene

I don't think I've ever been with Geraldene when she's sober, and I see her quite a lot. Well, I have seen her sober at the beginning of the evening. But that never lasts, which means there's a pretty good chance I won't remain sober very long either - as you'll see from the pic on the right / top (the most trashed I appear in a photograph - it's disgusting I know). But I will quote a great man, "At least I can say that tomorrow morning I'll be sober. You, however, will always be ugly." - Winston Churchill.

Heidi

"Hey, do you see that crocodile in the bonfire, Cornelia!" - Heidi. (Said five seconds after trying to convince me that she's not intoxicated). Heidi is my beautiful German fairy. But remember, fairies are very mischievous... I ADORE Heidi although I don't get to see as much of her as before. She's studying now. Heidi glows with sincerity and warmth. Yet she has absolutely no time for "soppy" men who can't handle a woman who knows what she wants and will do what she wants. Because that's exactly how she is. She revels in "pissing off" these kinds of men who wander into her life by flirting shamelessly with me in their company and totally ignoring them. I know the game by now, so I lay it on thick too.

Heidi appears in one of my short stories ("To kill a vampire") as the girl who saves me from "Mr. Pickup line". It was the day I wrote that story that I actually met her. Tracey also appears in one of my stories. She's the character Tristine in "Chocolate cake transgressions".

Doug"There is something half illicit, heartpounding when you look inside someone elses head. Compound that with the thought that if anyone were to look over my shoulder, my cover as meek and mild Mr.Clark Kent would be totally shot. I find myself fascinated by how just a piece of writing can do that to me, and I wish that I could do the same to somebody else." - Doug.

That's my Doug. I love Doug as I love Mimmie. He is to me the male version of her and visa versa. He has been my only consistent pillar of strength, who has witnessed my moments of utter despair and utter joy. He watches over me silently from a distance when I'm out with a group of hooligans behaving recklessly. There have been evenings when he's stayed within following distance of me to ensure my safety, when I'm too bold to consider it. But I'm hardly aware of his gentle eyes on me. That's not to say he's not a delinquent himself. Oh now. There have been days when the two of us have "bunked" work just because the sunshine was calling us the go frolic at the zoo.

I have Doug to thank for so much as far as work is concerned. I've learnt about 70% of all I know about computers from him. He took off a month from work to give me a crash course in networking, and the Internet, as he's a systems engineer and solution developer. This crash course lasted all day everyday until 2-3 in the morning. We would then go for take away food and philosophize under the stars to blow off some steam in the wee hours of the morning. He has also given me a lot of support and encouragement while preparing this homepage. Whenever my scanner packed up to go on holiday, I could run over to Doug to scan my pics at his place. (Thanks darling.) Like Mimmie, Doug and I enjoy each other best at night. He is also a "vampire" - which is probably why I love him so much. I am closest to those who are also creatures of the night.

Judd

Another one of those creatures is Judd who has accompanied me on several "fullmoon vampire celebrations". I relish his company, because he's totally crazy like me. What we do on these evenings is have as much fun in the dark as we can... Or else we go out of our way to scare ourselves. Exchanging gifts is also a ritual at fullmoon. I always have Doug, Mimmie and Judd phoning at Fullmoon, "Have you greeted the fullmoon tonight?" Judd and I are in the same line of work, which means I don't get to see very much of him nowadays. Time and stress are two big key words in the computer industry. We did however spend most of the 1997 festive season together. Thanks Judd for some awesome times I will not forget.
