2003 My Little Pony Review

I feel that I must talk about the new My Little Pony figures since they're a big thing for me. Frequenters would know of my love for My Little Pony, and with the new arrival of the 3rd generation, I've been head over heals for them!

Before talking about each individually, I want to talk about the differences between these and the 80's ones. These new ponies are smaller, with larger eyes that have highlights in the irises, and a gleam that most of the time represents a heart, they only have on of their hips decorated with a symbol (which I am kinda upset about), and a heart on the front hoof on their display side. To round it off, one of the forelegs has a magnetic hoof, which is used to activate certain accessories. Despite these changes, I do feel that the charm My Little Pony had back then was captured into these little ones, unlike the 2nd generation (sorry 2nd generation fans). Now, how I feel about each pony.

Pinkie Pie: I have to admit, the first time I saw her online, I did not care for her what so ever. I thought she looked like a pig, and even to this day I still do not see the connection between her name and her symbol of balloons. Although, I do find it funny that her symbol does look like sperm. After viewing her, I told myself, she is going to be the last one I buy. Boy was I wrong. At the beginning of July, when I was searching all over for ponies, I managed to stumble into a Hot Topic in Taylor, and low and behold, in the very back, the only one out on display, and still she was hiding, a Pinkie Pie. I snatched her without a second thought. At the cash register, I asked if there were any more, and the guy managed to pull out a Kimono. Both ponies cost 10 bucks a pop, and since they were my first I dished the money out even though it was double the retail value. Not only did I pay more, but also the packaging was very beaten up in comparison of all the other I bought. I affectionately call them the reject ponies that no one wanted but me. Since Pinkie here was the first, even though I really didn't care for her, she's got a special spot in my heart.

Kimono: When I first heard of the names of the new ponies, Kimono was right up there on the want list. When I saw my first picture of her, my liking of her dropped some. I wasn't too terrible head over heals for the color scheme, although I do like her symbol. But when she was given to me at Hot Topic, I didn't care and dished the money for her. Her packaging was worse than Pinkie Pie's, and she looked like she'd all ready been opened. I felt even worse for this one, and she too has a spot in my heart because she seemed like another reject.

Minty: I felt indifferent about Minty when I heard her name and saw her online. I didn't hate her, didn't like her either, I was neutral with her. I knew she had been a remake, and sometimes remakes don't always go over so good, taking the 2nd generation for example. Well, I had wakened up and went downstairs, and there sitting at the computer was a 2 pack of Minty and Butterscotch. I was thrilled and instantly opened them up. One unexpected event with Minty was that my youngest brother wanted her for some odd reason. Well, I fought a furious war to keep her, and then my older sister wanted her. Even after I offered the second Minty I bought to my brother, he still protested with wanting the first one I bought. I still refused, so now I have both of them. She's got a special place because she's mine, and no one else's.

Butterscotch: After seeing my first image of her on Ebay, I didn't care much. I was too hyped about the other images or Autumn Skye and Star Swirl. Well, things changed when I got Butterscotch, she instantly shot to one of my favorites. I loved the natural golden colors; I loved the pose, which happens to be Wysteria's pose. I know she was a remake, but looking back at the original Butterscotch, I like her a lot better this way. She's one of my favorites.

Razzaroo: Well, I don't know what to say about Razzaroo. I felt indifferent like I did with Minty, she was just a sort of out there pony. My mom surprised me again by bringing her home with a Moondancer. Well, lets say I enjoyed throwing a party for Razzaroo. Her cake was 'special', so to speak. I also like that she's purple, I can't say I care too much for that teal in her hair. And she is in Minty's pose, so I suppose that didn't help either. Nonetheless, she is mine, and I still love her.

Moondancer: I think she's the pony I am the most disappointed with. I saw a pic of her online, and I got upset. She wasn't a unicorn, which was my biggest gripe about her. Moondancer as always was a unicorn, in all her forms, even when she was renamed Moondreamer. And they changed her completely. Blue with blonde hair, and a newer version of the original symbol. And her pose...well, although the pose looks fine with Sweetberry, Moondancer looks very sly and flirty with it, and that bothers me for some reason. I miss the Moondancer of the first MLP special, with bright red hair and a white body. And even Baby Moondancer, with her pink and purple-stripped hair. This Moondancer I felt is a bad shadow of it's original. However, I did play with her slumber party set, I love the slippers. And her 'lemonade' drinking game left only Minty standing, awake, but still drunk.

Wysteria: I didn't even know this was a flower until I found out about this pony. Originally I thought the word was something witch related, -_-() sometimes I'm clueless. Well, I didn't jump to liking her right away, at the time I was for Kimono and Rainbow Dash. Well, I saw her, and read about her personality, and she hit number one of these new ponies. First off, she's purple; second her hair consists of that awesome pastel purple, pink, and white. Her eyes are green, her symbol's pretty, and I love her pose! Well, I wanted her bad. And I couldn't find her anywhere, along with other ponies, but I wanted her. But good old friend, Sarah, surprised me, giving Wysteria to me as a part of my graduation gift. I was so happy! She's the one I take out the most often, and she's without a doubt my favorite 03 pony.

Rainbow Dash: I wanted Dash the moment I saw all the pretty rainbow hair colors. She was awesome, spectacular, without a doubt the representative of the rainbow of light itself, it was so rainbow-ish. I almost thought she was a gay pony she was so rainbow-ish! Ha ha, but alas, I did not make Dash my gay pony (*coughs* Moondancer and Star Swirl). I had bought Dash along with a Minty/Autumn Skye pack, Sunny Daze, and Sweetberry. I was happy to see this one to my collection.

Sunny Daze: One phrase: Must...buy...white...ponies!! I seem to have a thing for white ponies, especially ones with red hair/any off red color and blue eyes. Well, white and streaks of the off red color got me hooked with this one. Of course, I wasn't big on Sunny Daze right away. I had drawn a picture of her as a baby, and after seeing her and her personality as such, I knew I wanted her, and I was thrilled to have gotten her! I love her hair, and her pose, and the purple eye color. I also think her symbol is cute. And there's something about her charm, I mean, with being a white pony and not having that sparkly finish. I like her plane and simple like that. She ranks up there amongst my favs.

Autumn Skye: I had wanted Autumn Skye badly when I saw her. I loved her name, and her symbol, and I still do. But my attraction for her died down a little. I still really like her, she's pretty, but she reminds me too much of Rainbow Dash. And two similar ponies like that just seem like a turnoff for me. *Shrugs* can't really say much more about her.

Sweetberry: I think I have less to say about Sweetberry than I do about Autumn Skye. Moondancer and her shared the same pose, and again she looks sly and seductive. Which doesn't seem to match her 'to do list' of telling jokes, not unless they're perverted. Well, I do like her body color, the mulberry is definitely different color indeed, but her hair colors turned me off, especially the two white streaks in her mane. I didn't have many feelings for her before, and I still don't. Although the fact she's free spirited is a plus.

Star Swirl: I wanted her after I saw her. She was white. She had off red hair. She had blue eyes. And she has the coolest, most detailed symbol out of all the ponies this year yet! I was so happy to find this one alongside a Sparkleworks pack. She has Sunny's pose, so I like her a lot all ready. And yes, as mentioned before with Dash, I kind of *cough* hooked up her with Moondancer. Well, what else was I suppose to do? Hasbro literally made it that they were, you know with Star Swirl staying up late, and Moondancer having slumber parties. Well I can tell you what Hasbro didn't put on their 'to do list'! Anyway, I can just picture the two dressed up in a sort of 'Dressed like a dream' them like in the Escape from Catrina special. Moondancer in a princess costume and Star Swirl as a prince. But enough of that. Star Swirl is up there man.

Sparkleworks: I wanted her because she was orange! That orange is so brilliant it was hard not to resist her! Her hair is the same off red as Star Swirl's, but on her it just looks different with the body. Her symbol is cute, and I can picture riding hot air balloons with her like her box says. It looks like she's a very festive, happy, pony, which I like. It's a good cheery personality that makes me like her. I luv you Sparkleworks!

The other ponies: Applejack, Cotton Candy, Baby Pink Sunsparkle, Meadowbrook, Amberlocks; and the international ones: Sweet Summertime, Winter Snow, and Spring Fever I don't have, so I won't comment on them.
