The History of Witchcraft
When the witches were first discovered, there possessions were burnt or sold at auctions and they were sent away to deserted islands with nothing. People were told not to talk with them and anyone caught talking with assumed witch, were punished with torture followed with death. By the late 1500's witches were considered wenches and prostitutes. This might have been said because of the ritual ways. The first trial act was in the year 1566.The next followed after 13 years, in 1579. After these trials 'killing the witches' became a craze and between 100,00 and 300,00 humans were borught to death, most of them were women. Some of them were not even guilty, but only accused. Some of them died in prison.
France, 1431. The trial of Joan of Arc also as known as Jeanne D'Arc. Accused of practising witchcraft. 1589, King Henry III, accused of hiding witches. Finally in 1625 the trials started to drop. The last death caused by this awful craze was a victim Father Louis Debaraz at Lyons. The trials passed freom England/Scotland to France all the way to Salem where they held the highest deaths, caused from witch trials. |
