Story by Sheldon Lettich(LIONHEART, BLOODSPORT)

Based in the glamourous and dangerous times of the 1920s producing a kind of "THE QUEST"-type atmosphere, this pretty non-martial arts movie satisfies one's need for violence. This story is a suspenseful story of survival set against an explosive war saga and a portrait of a group of men searching for new beginnings beyond their own broken dreams.

Alain Lefevre (a professional boxer in Marseilles) is paid a very generous sum of money to "take a dive" in his next fight. With some futhur convincing, Alain agrees. Later, Alain and his love Katrina decide to live out their dream; to live in America. During the fight, Katrina is awaiting Alain's return at the train station while Alain has some troubles of his own. He changes his mind; he isn't going to throw the fight, and doesn't. He wins the fight and runs out of the arena, fearing the brutal attacking of the men who paid him to lose. Alain runs for the train station to meet Katrina but doesn't make it there and their plans are foiled. Fearing for his life, Alain joins the LEGION to escape the country and his enemies.

Now, Alain is apart of the legion under a fake name (Alain Douchon) to protect himself from the men trying to kill him. Quickly, Alain makes friends in the legion and also makes enemies but must put differences aside while they go through brutal training to prepare them for what awaits them; their fate. With the 60 or so legionnaires, France's soldiers head for the secret hideout far into a North African desert, but are ambushed by the North African armies with whom they are at war and lose some of their men. Finally reaching the hideout, the legionnaires are once again put to work, preparing for the war that awaits.

Two long days of battle between France and North Africa result in France's defeat due to lack of ammunition and leaves Alain the sole survivor. The leader of the North Afrcian army allows Alain to live because a man with courage is valued above all. Now, remembering his friends and times he spent the past while, Alain is ready to go to America and finally live out his dream.

MY REVIEWS
On my Van Damme Scale of 1-10, I would definately rate this sucker to be a 8.5 if not a 9. If you are a HARDCORE Jean-Claude fan (like myself), you'll love it! But, if you are a HARDCORE martial arts fan, you may not think so highly of it because, like I said before, it isn't really a martial arts movie. It's more of a guns and horses battle movie. This is definately a movie that Jean-Claude can hold his head up high about, but I wonder why it was released straight to video? It would have really cleaned up in the theatres and made a lot of money....oh well. If you get a chance to see it, I totally recommend it! Sequel? I can see a sequel to LEGIONNAIRE. Oh yeah, I would really like to see what happens to Alain after this. Does he go to America? Does the men who paid him to throw the fight find him? Does he live much longer? I would love to find out!
