Vance Nesbitt 140-8380 Lansdowne Road Box 119 Richmond BC V6X 1B9 604-728-2343 Dear Reader One of my greatest strengths is my desire and aptitude to learn more and take on more responsibilities. My current workstudy position as lab assistant in the Multimedia Language Lab at Kwantlen University College originally involved signing in students, monitoring the lab and assisting when asked. I have been able to go beyond these basic requirements. As the Multimedia Language Lab is a new installation at Kwantlen, I saw a need for someone to learn some of the additional capabilities of the system. I took it upon myself to learn what I could about the system. Shortly thereafter, I was in a position to volunteer to teach the ESL teachers what I had learned. Fortunately, I was given the opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of the system to some of the teachers and it is now part of my task to teach the teachers on how to use the technology. My skills as an impromptu teacher of technology are quite good which may or may not be attributed to my excellent communication skills. Occasionally, repairs are needed on the system. As one example of my troubleshooting skills, I was able to diagnose an automatic security lockout on a switch as the cause of a station being unable to access the network. Once we knew the cause, it was easy to get fixed. In addition to my varied knowledge on my resume, I also have knowledge of distributed systems, TCP/IP, ATM, Frame Relay, client/server architecture, but I am still learning these. Taking apart an IP header and then the TCP header is kind of fun. Reminds me of the old days when I was taking apart the boot sector in our battles against viruses.
