Subject: cat poisonings I was horrified to learn that a couple's pet cats had poisoned, right in front of their home, in Canela. I was equally shocked to learn that the police are not taking immediate action to find and arrest the criminals. This crime is not only heart-breaking to the victims, Cristina Haberl and Carlos Mendes, the owners of the cats, but does not bode well for the town of Canela. Sociological research has shown that those who harm animals frequently turn next to harming human beings. By prompt action, the police can take steps to not only insure humane treatment of animals, but to prevent future crimes. As I understand it, the neighbors of the victims either know or suspect they know, the criminals. Thank you for giving this your immediate attention. Noel-Anne Brennan

| Sir,
It has been reliably reported to me that cats are being poisoned in your township of Canela. May I ask you to check into this matter with urgency and trust that you will halt this cruel practice. K. Mansfield Nolan

This is a copy of the e-mail that I have just sent to your Mayor. He will doubtless be receiving many more such mails from all over the world as cat-lovers world wide are disgusted about what is happening in your town. Sir I would like to join my voice to those others all over the world who are horrified by the apparent lack of interest shown by the Canela authorities in the deliberate poisoning of cats in your town. Here on the Spanish island of Mallorca we had the same problem a few years ago and I personally lost two beautiful pedigree cats to vandals who put down poison. The difference was that our Authorities and police force acted swiftly and incisively. Action was taken and the problem has not reoccurred. If you care about public opinion, I suggest that you too get your act together. Even if you do not care what some obscure woman in Spain thinks about it, for the sake of humanity and common justice I implore you to act. Gwen D'Arcy
