ALL ABOUT MY FAVOURITE DOLLS

I have always loved dolls. As a small child I had baby dolls, a walking doll, tiny dolls to play  dolls houses with and even paper dolls. At age six I was introduced to fashion dolls. My first one was Tressy. Next came Sindy and Patch, Britain's answer to Tammy and Pepper. By the time I was eleven I had them too as well a a Skipper, Tutti and a couple of Barbie clones. Strangely I never had a Barbie in those days.
I played happily with them all until my mid teens when I felt that I should stop playing with dolls and I gave many away. Then for a few years the only dolls I saw were in toy stores where I was too embarrassed to linger for long. My mother, also a doll lover, and I would sometimes go to look at dolls when we went shopping together but neither of us bought them for ourselves. Mum was waiting for grandchildren to buy for and I was still embarrassed.
Finally, in my forties and with no children I decided that grown ups could play with dolls if they wanted to and bought a couple of Barbie dolls at a flea market. Once I did that it was like the floodgates opened. I started to buy dolls to make up for all the ones I'd coveted but not bought over the years.
I don't have a large collection compared to some people's but the number of Barbies is starting to scare me. Many of my dolls are from markets and secondhand shops but I also buy from e-Bay and local doll dealers..
My favourite dolls are the hard plastic and vinyl dolls I remember from my childhood in the 1950's and 1960's, all kinds of eleven and a half inch fashion dolls and lately vinyl baby dolls made  in my former home town of Adelaide by Netta Australia.

Also on these pages you will see some of my other loves. The bears I have made, some favourite recipes and holiday photos. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
