| Despina Vandi was born in a town named Timpigen in Germany and she grew up in Kavala where her family is coming from.When she graduates from high school she leaves Kavala and goes to Thesalloniki to study Philosophy,at the Aristotelous University.While she was studying,at the second year (of her studies) she decides to take Phonetics lessons and begin her music career.She enters and becomes a member of a group called "The Microbe of Singing".At this moment she also sings at some piano bars where she meets the singer Basilis Karras. Basilis Karras likes her voice very much and he helps her begin her music career by intoduce her to the music company MINOS-EMI.People at MINOS-EMI loves her voice,and not only, and that's how she releases her first album in 1994 named "Gela mou" with a duet with the great singer Yiannis Parios. It doesn't take long for the people to love her.A lot of propositions are coming now at Despina's hands asking for a cooperation with her.The success continues with the new album she releases named "Esena Perimeno" with songs written from her close friend and collaborator Tony Kontaxaki.The new album confirms the success of the previous album.The media are giving the best critic about the new singer Despina Vandi. and everybody is talking about the new star in music world. After that Despina meets a lot of great singers on stage like Yiannis Parios, Vasilis Karras and Notis Sfakianakis.She also gives a lot of concert in Greece and all over the world. In 1997,she releases a new album named "Deka Entoles"signed by Foivos."Deka Entoles" becomes the first platinum album for Despina Vandi. In December of 1998,Despina Vandi releases her first cd-single named "Spania" signed by Foivos again.A cd-single with two songs which has major success messaging the success of her third personal album named "Profities" "Profities" is realeasing in December of 1999 and from the first day of their release becomes "a gold album"."Profities" also stay at first place of the charts for several weeks.The final result is:"Profities" becomes twice a platinum,almost three times platinum! In December of 2000,she releases her second single named "Ipofero",a single that becomes five times platinum,a very big number of sales.A number that shows that everyone loves Despina Vandi and that she is one of the greatest singers. Her show at REX in winter 2000-2001 is very impressing,leaving the press focas their interest at REX and ,of course,Despina. In March of 2001,Despina Vandi shows that besides a great singer she is also a great person by giving a selfless concert for the children of "Elpida"("Hope") Foundation. After that she continues her impressive shows at "Pili Axiou" in Thesalloniki and she leaves Thesalloniki's people amazed! |
