Almonzo’s Quest
Techniques for Achieving Goals Do you have an Einsteinian in the family? Well, you may come January as teams work through the latest challenge from Almonzo. Students have set off on their quest to “Infinity and Beyond.” On this perilous journey through a land filled with such creatures as the Decimal - isaurus, Teacherasaurus, and the giant Mathquitoes, students will be armed with The Six Essential Problem Solving Strategies. Students will encounter dangers such as the Pythagoras Pond, Stinky Swamp, and could be saved by the Miracle Moth. Stay tuned.? Noteworthy As you all already know, Mrs. Walden had baby Olivia on November 1, and is out on maternity leave until after Winter Break. She will return part time after the holidays. Mrs. Brown, her sub, will continue on with us and fill in the days that Mrs. W is not here. If you weren’t at the Open House, we would like to introduce Mrs. Brown to you. She has taught in the county for several years, most recently at Westridge ES as a reading resource teacher and then a Fourth Grade teacher. We are very fortunate and happy to have her here. December is the month for information meetings regarding Middle School Specialty Programs. Parents of all current PWC Fifth Graders should have received a pamphlet through the mail regarding the dates of these meetings and the programs offered. Check with your school’s counselor if you have further questions. We urge all 5th grade parents to attend one of these meetings, even if you are not considering having your child attend one of these programs at this time. You may change your mind, and once the application deadlines have passed, it will be too late. |

Reminders:
• Wednesday, December 12 – Family Night The Center will be open from 6:30 – 7:30 PM for you to drop by for an informal visit. If you can only come for a few minutes, that’s fine. Classroom teachers and administrators are always welcome too. • Web Site – Our web site is always available for information through the PWCS site or… http://oocities.com/vanhoutanL/Index.html • Remember to have your children dress appropriately for the weather. Please remind them to bring their coats, hats, and mittens to the Center. We do try to get outside for 15 minutes each day. • Weather Related Closings – Due to the shortened day and transportation concerns, if there is a delayed opening for PWC Schools, SIGNET Centers are closed for that day. • • With the cold and flu season already upon us, please remember that we cannot keep or dispense any medication at the Center without a PWCS form. These are available at your base school’s front office. The medication must be in the original bottle with your child’s name clearly marked. These will be passed along to the school nurse here at Lake Ridge Elementary. Above all, please know what really terrific children you have and that we are available as a resource for you. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us or visit our Parents Page on the web site. |
