Those Groovy Greeks
Techniques for Achieving Goals Did you know that your child can sing and dance the ABG’s ?? SIGNET students learned the Greek alphabet at the beginning of our Groovy Greeks Simulation. As members of problem solving teams, each student is actively solving Math challenges to uncover the code of the Ancient Greek All-Star Thinking Team. The singing and dancing has just been an added learning experience for all of us. As part of our simulation, each child has the opportunity to develop leadership skills while serving as team Archon, Orator, Scribe, or Stoic. Weekly topics have stretched our students in each of the curriculum areas. We will continue to study these famous thinking stars of Ancient Greece, their life styles, government, geography, theories in math, science, fables, art, and music. Personal connections have been made as the influence of this early civilization has had on our lives in modern Virginia is explored. The Presidential Election alone was enlightening. So sing along with your child as we continue this unit that takes our problem solving skills to new heights. (Altius) This is the month for information meetings regarding Middle School Specialty Programs. Parents of all current PWC Fifth Graders should have received a pamphlet through the mail regarding the dates of these meetings and the programs offered. Check with your school’s counselor if you have further questions. We urge all 5th grade parents to attend one of these meetings, even if you are not considering having your child attend one of these programs at this time. You may change your mind, and once the application deadlines have passed, it is too late to change your mind. |
