Differences
Listed here you will find some
of the things in Vanir's Fjord that may be different from
what was learned elsewhere. These things are used in an effort
by A/all of the Steading to move back to the books.
- The online language of the Kassar
is not used in Vanir's Fjord. Please use only English and
the words that are used in the books (Tal, kajira, Rarius,
etc.).
- The following misspellings should
not be used.
- ko'lar should be spelled
collar.
- Urth should be Earth.
- In the Steading we have no servery
nor do we have a chillery. We have a kitchen accessed through
a large archway or doorway so that the Free may still enjoy
the performance of serves. There is a small cold room in
the kitchen in lieu of a chillery. An ice shed is also found
behind the kitchen for larger items (side of bosk, extra
casks, etc.)
- Botas are used mainly for travel
and within a permanent settlement as is the Steading, would
rarely be used for serving. Most beverages will be found
either in a cask or a bottle. Others may be found in pitchers
or a kettle.
- Foods and beverages are not
tested for toxins in the Fjord. This would cast doubt upon
the Honor of the Steading with the thought the food or drink
may be poisoned. Should a slave be asked to test a drink,
she/he will go to the kitchen, retreive a separate vessel,
return to the Free to pour the drink into this vessel and
taste.
- Kalana, by the books, is a red
wine. There is no white kalana. If asked to serve white
kalana, please reply politely that the Fjord does not have
any white kalana but you can offer red or perhaps a Ta wine.
- There are no silk distinctions
among the slaves of the Steading. If by chance a slave is
referred to as "white silk" this simply means she is a virgin.
Alternately, a "red silk" is a slave that has been opened
for the use of Men, or no longer a virgin.
Slaves will fall into one of two categories. In training
her collar will read {VF*} since all new slaves (unless
coming to the Fjord with a new Member already in His/Her
collar) are placed in a Fjord collar and not a personal
one. A personal collar may be given once the slave is trained
and accustomed to the ways of the Fjord. After training,
the slave will either be given to a Free or move into the
{VF} collar.
- Bond-maids will wear a kirtle,
not silks, as is the way of Torvaldsland.
- Being of Torvaldsland, the Free
do not honor the Priest Kings but the old Gods of the Earth
Vikings, such as Thor and Odin. Priest Kings are generally
much disliked by the Torvaldslanders.
- In following the scrolls, there
is not first girl of the Steading. However, there are trainers
at the Fjord, girls who have extensive knowledge in the
ways of Gor, and will guide you in training. The trainers
have full discipline rights over the training slaves. This
does not mean a trainer will be abusive at any time, but
she will hand out punishment as she sees fit. The trainers
are usually referred to as "mistress" (lowercase m) by slaves
in training. This will be used at the discretion of the
trainer on a case by case basis.
- Slaves will sleep in the Great
Hall chained to a large log at night to prevent them from
being carried off to become the appetizer for some Kur.
Yes, it is possible for a Kur to break the heavy chains,
but such a racket would definitely arouse a few Warriors
even from the deepest of sleep.
On
being a bond-maid
Bond-Maids
and slavery in Torvaldsland
Drawing
the bond maid circle
When you've decided that Vanir's Fjord would be a good homestone
for you to submit to, take off the ~o~ from your name, use
the "submits" dropdown from the left, and choose
the Jarl's name from the dropdown on the right (or a Free
Member's name, if the Jarl is not around). A ceremony will
then follow to collar you to the Fjord and brand you. This
is the Torvaldslander way.
“He then drew with the handle of
his ax a circle, some twenty feet in diameter, in the dirt
floor of the temple. It was a bond-maid circle.” Marauders
of Gor pg 44
“To enter the circle, if one is
a female, is, by the laws of Torvaldsland, to declare one-self
a bond-maid. A woman, of course, need not enter the circle
of her own free will. She may, for example, be thrown within
it, naked and bound. Howsoever she enters the circle, voluntarily
or by force, free or secured, she emerges from it, by the
laws of Torvaldsland, as a bond-maid.” Marauders of Gor pg
44,45
Touching
Slave girls and slave boys in the Fjord do not play in the
furs. Bond-maids are considered too good for thralls, and
are reserved for the Free's enjoyment. You are here to please
the Frees, not yourself. The thralls here are for the Free
Women, not for sluts. Any bond-maids found playing in the
furs with a thrall, the thrall will be killed and you will
be punished.
“Bond-maids were, after all, the
property of free men. It was not permitted for a thrall to
touch them.” Marauders of Gor pg 104 (NOTE: later on in the
book a bond-maid is given to a thrall for his use for the
night, so this rule only applies if the thrall has not been
given permission by a free to touch the bond-maid)
Chains
Chains and shackles in the North are different. They are functional,
not ornate. You are not here to preen and adorn yourself and
wallow in self-vanity. The Rarius here mean business, and
will adorn you if They wish it.
“Two of the men of Torvaldsland
had, from their left shoulder to their right hip, that their
right arms be less impeded, a chain formed of slave bracelets;
each pair of bracelets locked at each end about one of the
bracelets of another pair, the whole thus forming a circle.”
Marauders of Gor pg 46.
“These bracelets were of the sort
used to hold women in the north. They are less ornate and
finely tooled than those available in the south. But they
are satisfactory for their purpose. They consist of curved,
hinged bands of black iron, three quarters of an inch in width
and a quarter inch in thickness. On one of each of the two
curved pieces constituting a bracelet there is a welded ring;
the two welded rings are joined by a single link, about an
inch in width, counting both sides, each of which is about
a quarter of an inch in diameter, and three inches long.”
Marauders of Gor pg 46
Preferences
in females
Torvaldsland Men love large breasted women. Think about this
when you choose your avatar *chuckle*. Of course, when you
have a Master/Mistress of your own, they may wish to change
your avatar. That is their right. As a {VF} slave, keep to
the scrolls though.
“She shrank back against the wall.
She was large breasted. The men of Torvaldsland are fond of
such women.” Marauders of Gor pg 44.
Property-females
Kurii are large, nasty, furry, intelligent creatures, with
fangs and claws and are highly feared by slaves. For a good
reason. Kurii will eat you if they catch you. This is why
the bond-maids are chained at night.
The Kur term for bond-maid. “We
will require,” said the Kur, “for each day of the march, as
provisions, a hundred verr, a hundred tarsk, a hundred bosk,
one hundred healthy property-females, of the sort you refer
to as bond-maids.” Marauders of Gor pg 177.
Kurii eat humans. “The soft flesh
of the human female, I knew, was regarded as a delicacy among
the Kurii.” Marauders of Gor Page 177
Collar
Collars of Torvaldsland are plain, functional and very effective.
Again, if Master/Mistress wishes to adorn you, They will.
The collars are basic black iron. Perhaps Master/Mistress
may enamel it a bit, or add a few baubles at Their whim, but
all collars are basically black iron. They cannot be broken,
snapped off or lock-picked off. Be very sure you wish to submit,
it's final. The only way you will get out of your collar is
if Master/Mistress WISHES you to, or kills you.
“He opened the hinged collar of
black iron, about a half inch in height. He put it about her
throat. It also contained a welded ring, suitable for the
attachment of a chain. “Put your head beside the anvil,” he
said. He took her hair and threw it forward, and thrust her
neck against the left side of the anvil. Over the anvil law
the joining ends of the two pieces of the collar. The inside
of the collar was separated by a quarter of an inch from her
neck......On one part of the collar are two, small, flat,
thick rings. On the other is a single such ring. These rings,
when the wings of the collar are joined, are aligned, those
on one wing on top and bottom, that on the other in the center.
They fit closely together, on top of the other. The holes
in each, about three-eighths of an inch in diameter, too,
of course, are perfectly aligned. The smith, with his thumb,
forcibly, pushed a metal riveted through the three holes.
The rivet sit snugly. .......Then, with great blows of the
iron hammer, he riveted the iron collar about her throat.”
Marauders of Gor pg 87
Discipline
We have some very unique ways of disciplining unruly slaves.
A slave who misbehaves is crying for attention, and even bad
attention is attention to some. We frown upon such dramatics.
We are not here to please YOU. The slave is here to please
the Frees. Remember that. If you cannot deal with that, then
Gor is not for you. Try the BDSM rooms and be vanilla.
Hurled
naked among the thralls
“Sometimes,” said he, “to discipline a bond-maid, she is hurled
naked among the thralls.” He smiles. “Do not fear. Should
this be done to you I, in my turn shall use you well, Bond-maid.
Quite well.” (pg 89)
Lashed
to the oar
“Put her to the oar.” had said the Forkbeard. Hilda, clothed,
had been roped, hand and foot, and body, on her back, head
down, to one of the nineteen-foot oars. “you cannot do this
to me.” She cried. Then, to her misery, she felt the oar move.
“I am a free woman!” she cried. Then, like any bond-maid,
she found herself plunged beneath the cold green surface of
the Thassa. The oar lifted. “I am the daughter of Thorgard
of Scagnar!” she cried, spitting water, half blinded. Then
the oar dipped again. When it pulled her next from the water,
she was clearly terrified. She had swallowed water. She had
learned what any bond-maid swiftly learns, that one must apply
oneself, and be rational, if one will survive on the oar.
One must follow its rhythm, and, as soon as the surface is
broken, expel air and take a deep breath. In this fashion,
a girl may live on the oar. Page 124.
Whipped
Note: Hilda has been stripped first. Then he said to the bond-maids.
“Take her to the whipping post.” The bond-maids, laughing,
dragged Hilda to the post, stout, of peeled wood, which stood
outside the hall. Ottar then, with a scrap of binding fiber,
crossed and rudely bound, before her body, the wrists of the
daughter of Thorgard of Scagnar; he then, reaching up, fastened
her wrists to the heavy iron ring over her head. Her breasts
were against the post; she could not place her heels on the
ground. “How dare you place me in this position, Ivar Forkbeard!”
she demanded. “I am a free woman!” “Bring the five-strap slave
slash.” Said Ivar Forkbeard to Gunnhild. Page 126
NOTE: At this point, Ivar himself
whips Hilda. Her hair is first placed over her shoulder, baring
her back.
The first stroke threw her against
the post; I saw the astonishment in her eyes, then the pain;
the daughter of Thorgard seemed stunned; then she howled in
misery; it was only then that she realized what the whip might
do to a girl. “I will obey you!” she screamed. “I will obey
you!” Ivar Forkbeard, experienced in the disciplining of women,
did not deliver the second stroke for a full Ehn. In this
time she screamed, over and over “I will obey you!”. Then
he struck again. Her body, again, was struck against the post;
her hands twisted in the binding fiber; her entire body rubbed
on the post, in agony, pressing against it; tears burst from
her eyes; she was on her tiptoes, pressing against the post;
her thighs were on either side of the post; but the post did
not yield; she was fastened to it......(she gets 20 strokes,
considered quite light)...The beating had been, though light,
quite adequate to its purpose, which was to teach her, a captive,
the whip. No female forgets it. Page 127 and 128.
Tied over
an ice block in the ice shed
NOTE: Hilda would not willingly beg to come to Ivar’s furs.
“Ottar, Gorm,” said the Forkbeard,
“Take her to the ice shed. Leave her there, bound hand and
foot.” Page 131
NOTE: Hilda stays there for more
than two Ahn. Here is her condition.....
She lay on her side, in misery,
across great blocks of ice; she could lift her head and shoulders
no more than six inches from the ice; she could draw her ankles
toward her body no more than six inches; small chips of wood,
in which the ice is packed, clung about her body; she was
bound, hand and foot, her wrists behind her, her ankles crossed
and tied. Two ropes prohibited her from struggling to either
a sitting or kneeling position, one running from her right
ankle across the ice to a ring in the side of the shed, the
other running from her throat across the ice to a similar
ring on the other side of the shed. “Please,” she wept. Her
teeth chattered; her lips were blue. She lay before us, on
her back. “Please,” she wept piteously, “I beg to be permitted
to run tot he furs of Ivar Forkbeard.” Page 132.
Lashed
to the main mast
“She was naked, except for the Torvaldsland collar of black
iron on her neck, with its projecting ring....riveted collar
of black iron, with the projecting ring, so useful for running
a chain through, or for padlocking, or linking on an anvil,
with a chain. The southern collar, commonly, lacks such a
ring....”Marauders of Gor pg 166
Branding
Branding is the first thing a Torvaldslander will do to a
bond-maid. Collaring is next. The Torvaldsland brand is a
half circle with a slash through it, described in more detail
below.
“She, moaning, was seized by a
fellow and thrown on her belly over the peeled log. Two men
held her upper arms; two others her upper legs. A fifth man,
with a heavy, leather glove, drew forth one of the irons from
the fire; the air about its tip shuddered with the heat. “Please,
my Jarl,” she cried, “do not mark your girl!” At a sign from
the Forkbeard, the iron was pressed deeply into her flesh,
and held there, smoking for five Ihn. It was only when it
was pulled away that she screamed. Her eyes had been shut,
her teeth gritted. She had tried not to scream. She had dared
to pit her will against the iron. But when the iron had been
pulled back, from deep within her flesh, smoking, she, her
pride gone, her will shattered, had screamed with pain, long
and miserably, revealing herself as only another branded girl.”
Marauders of Gor pg 86.
“The brand used by Forkbeard, found
rather frequently in the north, consisted of a half circle,
with at its right tip, adjoining it, a steep, diagonal line.
The half circle is about an inch and a quarter in width, and
the diagonal line about an inch and a quarter in height. The
brand is, like many, symbolic. In the north, the bond-maid
is sometimes referred to as a woman whose belly lies beneath
the sword.” Marauders of Gor pg 87
Coffle
This is an excellent way of transporting newly captured bond-maids
from their point of origin to the chilly north. It's difficult
to steal just one, without strangling the others.
A long length of binding fiber
fastened from throat to throat on the slaves’ collars.
Binding
Fibre
No Gorean puts binding fibre over shoes or hose. The female
can wiggle out of that. *grin*
