My Opinion On Xenophobia
By: Nat Hentoff
Just by the title you can
tell what this article
maybe about. The title has the xenophobic problem in this article. It tells us how the
students are now getting kicked out of school just by failing one
test.
It is not right that only
because students fail a
state test they get
to be kicked out of school. They have to have another chance at least. The
"No Child Left Behind", George W. Bush legislation, is not right because
every student has a right to have another chance. Students shouldn't be
kicked out of school just because they failed a state test. It is so wrong
if a teacher or a pricipal tell you that you are "too old" to be in school because everyone can stay in high school until they
are 21 years old. Which creates more drop outs every
year.
Since there are more drop
outs I think that Joel
Klien should do what
Judge Jack Weinstein ordered last year to the Department of Education. He
odered them to send out letters to all the students that droped out or
had being discharged out of Franklin K. Lane High School. Asking
them why they left the school, what have they being doin since and their
student rights.
I think that before any
student gets pushed out of
school or drops out
they should be well informed of what their rights
are.
