Educational Video Outline &
Treatment
Statement:
Members of Calexico High School’s Estudiantina (musical ensemble) are facing
the problem of not being able to practice their songs at home because their
guitars go out of tune before they arrive to it. This is caused by the extreme change in
weather conditions between the classroom and the high temperatures outside of
it. Using this video, the students will
be able to tune their guitar at home by following the step by step
instructions.
Outline:
Current Situation
- The music class moves so quickly that it doesn’t
allow time to teach students how to tune their own guitar.
- Even if there was time available, most students
do not have another instrument at home from where to get the pitch(es) they need.
- By practicing with an instrument that is out of
tune, the students do not know if they are playing correctly or not.
Solution
- The video will give step by step instructions on
how to tune a guitar.
- It will target all types of learners because it
will incorporate narration, sounds, text, and digital pictures.
How it will work
- Students will view / study the website.
- They will follow the instructions of the teacher
and imitate what they see on the screen.
Results
- Traditionally, tuning is an intimidating concept
to new musicians.
- By doing it on their own, anxiety will be
greatly reduced.
- By being able to tune their guitars, the
students will be able to practice at home, therefore, learning the music
much faster.
- For those students that want to continue
studying music, this will be a very valuable tool.
Treatment:
The video will consist of
eight slides. Each will have a digital
picture, text, narration, and an arrow pointing the area of focus.

neck with an arrow pointing at the targeted string (6th). Text will show the name of the string.
The
note of the targeted string will then be heard.

- Slide # 5 will show a still image of a guitar
neck with an arrow pointing at the targeted string (3rd). Text will show the name of the string.
The

playing a simple chord. The text
will say what chord it is. The
narrator will then say that if the students’ guitar is properly tuned,
then their chord will sound very similar what they will hear next. The sound of the chord will then be
heard. The narrator will now make
his closing statement(s) and fade out, thus, ending the video.
