The History of Our Campaign

In 1980 and 1986 laws were passed which caused some registered nurses, working for theVeterans Administration, to receive reduced pensions when they retire. A national grassroots effort has brought together many registered nurses affected by these laws- some nurses already living on significantly less money in their VA retirement annuities than they had expected, and some who will feel the affects when they do retire. The laws that were passed in the federal legislature adversely affect Title 38, including registered nurses working part time before 1986 , but do not adversely affect any other federal employees. All other federal employees are receiving their full pensions for part time employment as all federal employees, including registered nurses, were to have received.

The effort to restore our full pensions started in April, 2001. The nurses working as a team have accomplished a great deal. We have contacted many registered nurses, family and friends, to notify our legislators that we want some relief from these laws which were requested by the Department of Veterans Affairs reduce the pensions of Title 38 employees. The ramifications of the reduced pensions negatively affect not only our pensions, but also reduce the pensions which we intend to leave to our spouses should we die.

This website is intended to be used by registered nurses and any other individuals willing to help our cause. It will eventually contain all of these:
