Email to us regarding a letter sent by Senator Arlen Specter to one of our pension issue members. Note the following follow-up to a mistake in the letter. Thank you to Mary Ann Mackin for picking up the mistake and your follow-up, and to Theresa Dionne for calling his office and getting it clarified.
I spoke with Bill Cahill today at the Veteran's Affairs Office.
He assured me that mistake re: 1986 is his error. The Legislation
S1188 is correct, and addresses our concerns as it should. Bill
plans to draft a correction which we will receive in the near
future clarifying his error.
Debbie please forward this info to all concerned
Theresa
Debbie:
I received a letter from Senator Arlen Specter today. He apologized
for the delay in responding while the Committee completed work
on completion of legislation which addresses our concern's.The
remainder of his letter follows.
"The section of the 1986 COBRA (sec. 7003) to which your
letter refers changed the manner in which pensions are computed
for part time, Title 38 nurses, who retired prior to April 7,1986.
I am pleased to inform you that recently the Committee of Veterans
Affairs unanimously voted to send S 1188 to the floor of the United
States Senate with a recommendation that the bill be passed.
Section 302 of this bill would make the specific change in the
law you requested in your letter. I look forward to supporting
the passage of this bill by the full Senate sometime later this
fall.
Again, thank you for taking the time to write to me. Should you
require any additional assistance or information in the future,
please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely
Arlen Specter
