Grading Policy for Qualifying
Examination
in
Microbiology and Immunology
Pass/Fail of Sections
and the Exam:
There will be four sections to the examination with four questions on each section. Each question will be given a score of pass or fail by the instructor. In order to pass the section the student should pass all four questions or pass three questions with successful remediation of a failure on the fourth question. In order to pass the entire exam, the student should pass all four sections of the exam or pass three sections of the exam with successful remediation of the section failed. Failure to pass two or more sections of the exam constitutes a failure on the entire exam.
Remediation:
Remediation of a question on the exam or one section of the exam may take the form of answering new questions in a written exam and/or discussions with the faculty. The decision as what type of remediation is needed will be determined after reviewing the overall performance on the exam. Retaking of the same question(s) on the previous exam will not be an option but could be important points of discussions with the faculty. Remediation should be completed within one month of receiving the evaluation of the first exam.
Retaking of a Failed
Exam:
If the exam is failed, a new exam will be constructed with new questions for each section of the exam. Retaking the exam should be completed within two to three months of failing the first exam.
