And that's where we "live" when we participate in the activities of the SCA - Society for Creative Anachronism. Mundanely, Akornebir is the Walla Walla County and the Waitsburg/Dayton area. But in things medieval we're located in the Barony of Wastekeep in the Inlands Region in the Kingdom of An Tir.
Whether on or off site Vaughn heads up a household called the Highland Rose and is Guildmaster of the College of Metaphyics branch in Akornebir. Rishandra heads up a ship called the DragonFyre. They are known (Vaughn and Rishandra) as Robert and Rishandra Gordon who live on an estate near the clan castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Their time period is the early 1600s CE and dress in period attire. Vaughn aka Robert aspires to be a rapier fighter some day in the Canton physical limitations permitting.
Here for your enjoyment is the short history of Akornebir:
The SCA in Walla Walla has had several starts and stops over the last decade and before the Canton was formed there was a core group built around the Whitman College Medieval Society with the participation of a few locals. In 1998 a group of locals decided that there was enough local interest to form a Canton as a subgroup of the Barony of Wastekeep. Members met for potlucks and fighter practice for several months while getting the word out locally. In October 1999 we were granted incipient status under the holding name of Azure Mount. This name was already being used (with a different spelling) by a branch in another kingdom, so the search for another name was on. The name Akornebir (OE for "an old fortress inhabited by squirrels) was agreed upon by the populace and submitted for registration, in 2000. We expect to be granted permanent status after the Canton name and device are passed and registered.
