Why does the spider
or; Hubris
 
Why does the spider spin her web
of perfect symmetry
dew drops shimmering on the nodes?
 
Arachne sat weaving a perfect cloth;
drunk by its beauty
she claimed she was the best weaver
ever, better than Athena,
angering the goddess
who turned her into the spider
cursed to weave for ever.
 
It seems to me she still is
enamored by the beauty she creates,
despite the goddess.
Any fly caught and rapidly
consumed points out in practice
that art is not completely useless.
