Some Poems

 Some poems
 are like Athena,
 brought forth whole,
 crystalline in harmony
 of thought and language.

 Some poems
 are like Dionysus,
 gestated in unexpected places,
 birthed by the knife,
 brimming with paeans
 and ecstasy.

 Yet some poems,
 like newborn
 baby giraffes,
 lope off
 with unsure steps.
 These are the ones
 to watch tenderly.
 Expect them to grow,
 --with every reading--
 into majestic stature.
