We buried fox the other day

 his furry long tail
 carried the tale of death
 his tired old body
 hiding, snout down, between
 the stone fence
 and the olive tree,
 flies buzzing
 precursors of decay.

 Earth to earth,
 we gave back
 in a   grave worthy
 of such a wise teacher,
 cheating crow
 of his dinner
 for the last time
