Ants

Ants are very resilient.

Before my divorce we had a house in a village on Parnasus, a mountain four hours out of Athens so we did not go often. At the time there was no electricity and no running water, we had to go downlhill and fetch water from the shady springs. The water for the small sink was added to a small hanging tin tank, and was the first thing checked when returning. After a long absence, I checked and saw a black mass floating on the remaining water. I wondered how leaves had gotten in there and then to my surprise I saw that it was a ball of ants, God knows since when, floating on the water. The top ones were moving. I took the container and emptied it on the cement steps outside, to see how many had survived. All the ball walked away. Obviously it was continuously rotating by their movements , and they all survived.
